Did school board make right move?
It was a split vote Tuesday night when the Janesville School Board agreed to use $150,000 more than expected in state aid to reduce the property tax levy. Teachers pleaded for the board to use the windfall to help reduce class sizes where needed. Read reporter Frank Schultz's story here.
Did the board make the smartest choice? That will be the topic of the Gazette's editorial Friday.

badger4life: You are correct, and my apologies to our readers. Our editorial should have said no classroom has passed the 30-student limit; apparently a couple are at the limit. We will be running a correction in the Gazette.

Statements in the editorial are inaccurate. A friend of mine told me that two fourth grade classrooms at Adams Elementary are at 30 students each. So if they add another 4th grader this year they will need to hire another teacher. Where will that money come from? The $150,000 definately could be used to improve class sizes and overall improve student learning.

Shotgun Willie, You're right. They should have cut your food stamps and government subsidized housing that I'm paying for for your sorry ass. Right on Badger! Practice this line and you might get a job! Would you like some fries with that?

Willie Wonka, spend a day in a classroom with 28 students and then try making that ignorant statement.

I do not believe they made steep enough cuts to start out with.
