Should Janesville expand ordinance to allow chickens?
The Gazette's Nov. 16 story about David Innis, a Janesville man who wants the chance to raise chickens in his backyard, sparked a lively online discussion. He has convinced two council members to put on a future meeting agenda the idea of modeling a city ordinance after the one in Madison. The capital city allows people to keep up to four chickens in backyard enclosures. You can read the story here.
The subject also prompted a Nov. 23 discussion, complete with a live chicken, on WCLO's "The Stan Milam Show." Dale Wheelock, the key leader for poultry in Walworth County, discussed raising chickens with Milam. You can listen to the podcast here.
Innis thinks the ordinance could help our community keep with the "green" movement. But would it cause unforeseen problems?
This will be the topic of our editorial Tuesday.
