O, Summer in Milton!
Once again, Jim's blog has been turned over to his poetic friend, Henry Woolworth Shortfellow.
O, summer in Milton
An amazing time!
The events of the season
Presented in rhyme
The season got started
In the middle of June
When high school commencement
Endured a monsoon
Did the students get mad?
Did the graduates complain?
They just kicked off their shoes
And played in the rain
Good seats were scarce
For the parade July 4
Folks staked out their spots
Up to two days before
Schilberg Park would have no
Games or rides, it was feared
But come Sunday morning,
A carnival appeared!
The fireworks this year
Were surprisingly short
Rumor had it an injury
Caused the abort
Independence Day in Milton
A small slice of heaven!
But who’ll pay for the parade
After 2011?
With the holiday gone,
Commence High Street repair
Between 26 and Y
One can’t get anywhere
Detours abound
On every side street
You can drive half a mile
Just to go 50 feet
Avoid the construction!
Go to Goodrich Park!
On August 15,
Enjoy ice cream and art!
Thousands of chicken breasts
Sides of cole slaw
The chamber fundraiser
Is always a draw
Meanwhile, the school district
Awaits a decision
On contract proposals
That caused a division
Whatever one thinks
Of the union's direction
At least they aren't suing
To get an erection
And that's just this summer
So much more in store!
This town of 5,000
Is never a bore...
