What's Your Sign?

By JIM LYKE   Saturday, August 1, 2009 - 6:17 a.m.

Because I now work for Lamar Outdoor Advertising, I have been asked several times this past week about a billboard located on John Paul Road near its intersection with High Street at the edge of the city.

Motorists traveling south are greeted by a picture of a smiling woman and the legend, "Why leave Milton?"

People are dying to know what this sign means. Men in particular seem to be curious, as the female model has been described to me as "seductive" and "a hottie." As one guy said to me, "If a hottie like that is telling me to stay in Milton, I'm not going anywhere!"

Well, all I can say at this point is that you won't have to wait long for the mystery to be solved. Be patient...all will be revealed.

GLAD to see the REST of the sign, JIM! NOW I do KNOW why NOT to leave Milton. There are a lot more and, I would assert, BETTER reasons NOT to leave Milton.

How about a blog posting listing the TEN TOP REASONS (ala Letterman) NOT to leave Milton, Jim? YOU are the MILTONIAN expert!

I'll be reading your blog with interest...

If there are really women like that roaming around Milton, why leave?

Hey Jim - First of all - it's a cool billboard! Also, want to say that I find the articles you write(and your film performances - Madison) to be interesting and well done. I was wondering if anyone here ever saw the billboard off I - 90 in Janesville(For a local hamburger restaurant that starts with an F) that said -"BITE ME" - First time I saw that billboard I recalled what that expression really meant way back when. I was a surprised it was used in an ad based on what it is really telling someone to do.

I'll be honest, I'm not impressed with that billboard. It's on the way out of town, so if I'm already leaving, I have an answer to the question, "Why leave?"

If someone is trying to make me stay, they are only reminding me of the reason I'm driving away.

Sorry, Jim.
I'm eager to see the story behind it only to see the sign changed.

I debated about posting this because I was worried people would think that. But I decided to because so many people had asked about the sign. Bad decision. OK, lesson learned.
