Wisconsin DNR seeks input on new deer surveys
MADISON—The state Department of Natural Resources is asking deer hunters to fill out two new surveys.
One survey focuses on hunters’ perceptions of local herds, asking whether hunters believe the herd in local management units has grown or shrunk and whether the DNR issues the proper number of permits for each unit.
The other survey asks broader questions, including how the DNR should implement recommendations Texas researcher James Kroll offered last summer to improve the hunt and how to fight chronic wasting disease.
The surveys will be available online as well as at a number of public meetings to discuss the 2013 deer hunt and Kroll’s recommendations over the coming months.

I hunt in a party of about 15 people in Black
River. We see less deer every year. I went to a spring hearing once. After all the negatives the Dnr got about the deer herd, including from private land owners, their reply was "There are plenty of deer out there you just have to hunt harder than you used to". What a BS statement from an obvious idiot.

ChsMkr: I agree, I usually can't get a word out of the deer, let alone a note.

Per the 2012-2013 DNR deer hunting regulations(I don't have booklet to quote actual wording or page source) It is illegal to hunt over bait or place out for recreational viewing in alot of counties. Yet I can go into hardware and feed stores in said counties and purchase salt licks or a rock which is a salt/mineral mix. Yet I'm surrounded by corn fields, alfalfa fields, a variety of grasses, fruit bearing trees, etc. IMO I think the DNR is ripe with NON common sense ideas. The days of providing food for rural folks and handing down(teaching) hunting traditions are long gone. It's time for common sense ideas's outside of the box.

That wacky DNR! Have you ever seen a deer fill out a survey? I foresee limited input.
