Two Illinois men in custody after armed robbery
TOWN OF JANESVILLE—Following a vehicle and foot pursuit, two Loves Park, Ill., men are in custody at the Rock County Jail after being arrested Tuesday night on charges of armed robbery.
Multiple other charges are likely to follow, said Sgt. Josh Lund of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.
Arrested were Brandon M. Bunch, 23, and Brandon S. Turnure, 20. Both will make their initial court appearances in jail court at 4 p.m. Thursday.
Deputies and detectives continue to investigate the incident, which came in as a report of a robbery at 10:31 p.m. Tuesday on North Glenmoor Lane in the town of Janesville.
The victims, a father and son, told investigators each of the suspects pointed a handgun at them, demanded they give up their stuff in their driveway and fled the area in a Cadillac after stealing a laptop computer and an iPhone, Lund said.
The father followed the suspects in his vehicle into the parking lot behind a business on Black Bridge Road, where the Cadillac hit a building and got stuck in a snow bank, Lund said.
Then the adult male victim ran into a nearby business, borrowed a cellphone from someone and called 911 to give updated information.
“He advised the suspects had removed (license) plates from the car and had fled on foot,” Lund said. That’s when Rock County deputies began a foot pursuit with Janesville police officers who were being assisted by a canine unit.
After a short pursuit, the two men were taken into custody, he said.
Police recovered two handguns, Lund said. They also found a laptop computer and a cellphone but were not sure if they were from this robbery incident.
“It was a Craigslist deal that went bad,” he said.
Craigslist.org is an online classified advertisement website.
Police are unsure whether this incident is linked to a similar incident that occurred Saturday in Madison, Lund said.
“We think maybe the stuff is from Madison. But we’re still investigating.”
