Janesville man faces homicide, intoxicated driving charges after fatal crash

JANESVILLE—A Janesville man faces a homicide charge after a fatal car crash Sunday afternoon on Janesville’s south side.

Bruce R. Hohenstein, 54, of 2122 Afton Road, Janesville, was arrested Tuesday on charges of homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle and injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle, according to a news release from the Janesville Police Department. He also was ticketed for intoxicated driving and operating left of center, according to the news release.

According to the news release:

Janesville police were dispatched at 3:58 p.m. to Afton Road at Highway 11. Hohenstein was driving north on Afton Road when he crossed the centerline and hit a southbound car head-on.

The driver of the other vehicle, Amy K. Johnson, 33, Fitchburg, was killed in the crash. A passenger in Johnson’s car, Paige N. Morfey, 20, Janesville, was injured. She is hospitalized with critical injuries and is in stable condition.

Hohenstein is in police custody at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, Sgt. Rick Larson said. No court date has been set at this time.
