EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) ó A Fall Creek man is being investigated for allegedly mistreating animals and operating as a dog breeder without a license.

Twenty-seven dogs were seized from the manís property in May. The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram reports (http://bit.ly/19Kfn3r ) a judge ruled Friday that one dog and its litter will be returned to its owner ó Philadelphia Eagles running back Bryce Brown.

But the remaining dogs will stay at the Eau Claire County Humane Association until prosecutors decide whether to file charges.

The man said in court documents that he thinks the animals were removed because a humane association official believed the pit bulls and bull terriers were fighting dogs. Seven dogs had scarring.

In an affidavit, Brown says his dog is a pet and was sent to Fall Creek for stud services.
