JANESVILLE—Two people are in custody and more charges are pending after at least two volleys of shots were fired early Wednesday in Janesville.

Janesville Police Sgt. Michael Blaser said officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Cottonwood Drive at 1:59 a.m. for a report of shots fired “somewhere to the south” of that location, Blaser said.

Officers arrived at 2:03 a.m. and heard another volley of shots, he said.

Police determined the shots were being fired in the 2900 block of Black Bridge Road. They secured the area and alerted residents.

Blaser said five people were detained, including three adults and two young children. Two of the adults were subsequently arrested on charges of recklessly endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon.

No one was injured in the incident, Blaser said.

As of 6 a.m., police were executing a search warrant at the property on Black Bridge, and more charges are possible, he said.
