TOWN OF MILTON—The westbound lane of Highway 59 at County M in the town of Milton remains closed after a semi tractor-trailer crashed into the roundabout and tipped over.

The driver was headed toward Milton when he missed the roundabout and crashed into it causing the trailer’s load to shift and tip over onto its side in the westbound lane, said Sgt. Matt Jacobson of the Rock County Sheriff’s Office.

Both lanes of the highway were shut down until almost 4 a.m., he said.

It will take a couple more hours to clear the scene since the J.B. Hunt trailer remains on its side and the boxes are being unloaded and reloaded into another trailer, Jacobson said.

“It’s a tedious process taking box by box out, repacking them and putting them on pallets,” he said. The trailer contained paint products in cardboard boxes stacked on pallets and wrapped in plastic, Jacobson said.

“Some of the boxes broke free but nothing poured out of the truck and everything was contained inside,” he said.

The male driver from Chicago suffered minor injuries and was taken by a Milton Fire Department ambulance to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center, Janesville, where he was treated and released, Jacobson said.

His name was not immediately available.
