JANESVILLE—A town of Plymouth man authorities believe fatally shot his neighbor before turning the gun on himself in February was being booked into the Rock County Jail Monday afternoon, Sheriff Robert Spoden said.

Daniel Bellard, 75, killed his neighbor, 59-year-old Christine Gestrich, and then shot himself in his barn on Feb. 6, authorities said.

Bellard has spent the past five months at UW Hospital in Madison recovering from that gunshot wound, with sheriff's deputies guarding him around the clock, Spoden said.

The hospital released Bellard on Monday afternoon, at which point he was taken by ambulance to the jail, Spoden said.

Bellard is expected to make his initial appearance in Rock County Court on Tuesday, Spoden said.

He will be held in the jail's medical facility, Spoden said.
