MILTON—A 49-year-old Janesville man was seriously injured when his motorcycle left County M in the town of Fulton on Thursday night.

According to the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, Bart J. Schmidt was westbound on County M just past North Kidder Road when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle left the north side of the road and Schmidt was thrown.

Authorities were dispatched at 9:04 p.m.

Schmidt was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center in Janesville where he was admitted with life threatening injuries, the department said in a news release.

Schmidt was not wearing a helmet, and deputies said speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the crash. He was arrested for operating while intoxicated.
