A Janesville man was transported to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center after falling an estimated 30 feet from a railroad bridge.

At 12:34 p.m. today, police and firefighters were called to the area of Delavan Drive and Center Avenue, according to Rock County Communications. The railroad bridge goes over the Rock River near the Monterey Dam at that point.

The man was on the railroad bridge when he stepped into the space between the trestles and plunged into the wooded area near the edge of the river, said Janesville Police Sgt. Brian Vaughn.

Alcohol was involved in the incident, Vaughn said.
