JANESVILLE—Janesville police and fire are still trying to determine the cause of an early Wednesday morning fire at the Taj Mahal authentic Indian cuisine restaurant, 2624 Humes Road.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at 12:17 a.m. Wednesday and cleared a while ago, said a lead dispatcher at the Rock County Communications Center.

The fire was contained to the men’s bathroom, said Sgt. Mike Blaser of the Janesville Police Department.

“At this point we’re looking into it and working with the fire department to determine the cause,” he said.

The fire is “not necessarily’’ considered to be suspicious at this time, Blaser said.

But, “at this point we’re still trying to figure the cause,” he said.

The restaurant was closed when the fire was reported and the last patrons had already left, Blaser said.
