JANESVILLE--Police are canvassing an area around Canyon Drive on Janesville’s east side after a report that a man fired a gun in the air multiple times.

According to Rock County 911 dispatch, police are checking areas around apartment complexes in the 1400 block of Canyon Drive after a call came in from a female resident around 9:15 p.m. The woman said that a man shot a gun in the air three times, according to police scanner traffic.

The man was being described in police scanner traffic as a black male with a hat and a white t-shirt.

Police told 911 dispatch they hadn’t located an armed suspect. One officer in the area of where the gun shots were reported apparently said he didn’t hear any shots fired.

Around the same time, calls were coming into Janesville police dispatchers that a person or people were shooting off large amounts of “exploding” fireworks in an area along Liberty Lane on the city’s east side.

A Janesville police shift commander was not immediately available to give details on the reports of gunfire.
