MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin gun advocates joined nationwide rallies in support of gun rights.

The group Wisconsin Guns Across America held a peaceful rally Saturday outside the Capitol in Madison.

Capitol police spokeswoman Stephanie Marquis (mar-KEE’) says an estimated 500 to 600 people showed Saturday up and there were no issues.

The Facebook page for the event called it a “peaceful picketing protest.” Pictures posted on the page showed people holding signs like “Know Guns Know Freedom.”

The rally is one of many slated to take place on state capitols across the country thanks to a loosely organized campaign via social media. The rallies were sponsors by the Washington D.C.-based group Political Media.

You are going down a slippery slope.
I have to laugh at some of the gun nuts
that call for stricter mental background checks.

Gary...did you read the link? This guy was certifiable nuts! The police had been called about him numerous times. This wasn't a case of "acting suspiciously."

What if the police started to arrest anyone that they
or some other person thought was acting suspiciously?
Now, what if you were one of those people?
How does your brilliant plan sound now?

woody...and the police were well aware of this nut, just like the crazy kid at Newton. Why didn't someone get this guy some help instead of just letting him run loose? Again, it's the crazies with guns, not the law abiding sane people. You are getting your issues mixed up. This guy also used a pen knife to kill a dog. Want to ban pen knives?

The mother had a .38 revolver that holds 5 or 6 shells. That is WAY different than a AR15 with a 30 round clip. Don't you get it???

I think they might be considering banning
high capacity SDHC cards.

I attend a lot of events. One of the wonderful things about being out of the workforce, is that I have the ability to pursue one of my hobbies, photography.

I have my cameras in the car at all times, so I have been able to get some great photos of nature and wildlife.

Why not take photos of history making events? What's next, a ban on the number of pictures someone can "shoot"?

dtb - not down on protestors. Just misguided protestors. The 1st amendment is nearly as important as the 2nd amendment.

Funny how these right wingers are down on protesters until the NRA is involved. Then it's all hunky-dory.

This mother had access to a firearm, thank goodness. It saved her children and herself.

wislady, do you really attend every event in the state?
Sometimes two at once?
I want to thank you all for spending your hard earned money
to defend me against a tyrannical government.
IMO, you are more likely to shoot each other or yourselves,
but as long as it makes you happy...

It was a great rally, and nice to see folks from all political parties.

The headcount seems closer to 1000-1200, fairly typical for the numbers that turned out in other states. Hard to get accurate count, as many people arrived at 10 AM and others joined in shortly before the speakers began, around noon.

I did my own rally, I went to Dam Road Gun shop on Friday to put a down payment on a gun and to Thunder Shooting, Saturday to buy ammo.

From the video I'd say it's probably 500-600 tops.

If the AP says the attendance was 500-600 for a 2nd Amendment rally, then the actual headcount was likely closer to 5000-6000.
