WASHINGTON—Vice President Joe Biden is hearing personal stories of gun violence from representatives of victims groups and gun-safety organizations as he works on the Obama administration’s response to the shooting at a Connecticut elementary school.
Biden’s meeting Wednesday is part of a series he’s holding this week to build consensus around proposals to curb gun violence after the Dec. 14 shooting in Newtown, Conn., in which 20 school children were killed.

He told participants that he and President Barack Obama are determined to act.

Participants included the Brady Campaign to End Gun Violence and groups from Arizona, Illinois and Wisconsin. Also present were two survivors of the Virginia Tech shooting.
Obama has asked Biden to deliver policy proposal by the end of the month.

When did it go from emphasis on keeping our children safe, especially in schools, to gun control. Isn't that the cart before the horse. Shouldn't we explore ALL the parts of this problem before we determine the program or programs to solve it?

Like Stalin, Hitler, Castro, Obama - tyranny reigns when a government disarms it's citizens. Now by Executive Order
Any means necessary to rule as dicator.

I think the first thing these various factions should do is to sit down and agree on two things:

1. What are the FACTS that are germane to this topic?
2. What are the common short-term & long-term goals that will lead to reduced gun violence?

Put these agreed to fact/goals in writing and publish them and then move on to problem solving. No one would be happy with everything but I bet we could move the ball forward. Certainly the arguing of viewpoints does no good unless there is a factual basis to fall back on. For those organizations/groups that will not participate……well, maybe there is the problem.

Why are just looking at the 20 kids killed. Every yr chicago has over 350 kids killed in gun violence. Thae same holds true for Detroit. And we are only concerned about the 20 kids. lets get a life and look at the big picture and that is young teens and older are able to get there hands on guns that are hot and mainly used to kill another teen that is in a gang.

‎"We can't even begin to address 30,000 gun deaths that are actually, in reality, happening in this country every year because a few of us must remain vigilant the rise of imaginary Hitler." ~Jon Stewart
The greater shame is that the number of veterans who are using guns to commit suicide are greater than the number of troops killed while on active duty. Why is it "government intrusion" and "unconstitutional" when concerning the even most basic gun registration but not both the same when our personal, physical integrity is at question (i.e. reproductive rights, warrantless blood sampling, etc.) Guns, when used PROPERLY only do DESTRUCTION whether to a target, an animal or another human being. Sadly, human beings evolve far slower in intelligence than the weaponry they so callously and frivolously demand...and use daily.

Biden: "I don't always say what I mean, but you know I mean what I say!"
.
I'm not against gun ownership per se, but I sure am against unrestricted gun purchases and laws that are only applied after somebody kills a bunch of people. The concept that there even exists a "gun show loophole" is a sick joke to anyone who has lost a family member. Background checks for all, and sufficient gun sale taxes that we can fund a national buyback program to get guns off the streets. I'm tired of paying for this "hobby".

Carlito -- Are that gullible or just deaf and dumb.... LOOK AT CHICAGO ---- How is it working out for them. What statistics show is crime drops significantly in concealed carry states and areas. You can ignore all the facts you want -- buy what this president and the far left (not all Dems), want is to increase the lower income levels, forcing down middle class, they want to disarm , because when this far left wing nut Pres gets what he wants, the he needs to be able to control them. They basically want to re-write the constitution.

"multi shot clips off the street"......who is running about with M1 Garands?

I don't know what is worse, Carlito's Eysteresque writing style (rambling, malfunctioning caps lock key, with no discernable point beyond "my side good, other side evil") or Cynical's belief that Carlito's post was some kind of work of literary genius.

So its just the 20 kids that this is happening for? How many guns save lives daily? Victim groups I would think have no merrit because any opinion they have is going to be emotionally based instead of logically. Its like asking a person whos family died in a plane crash if they like airplanes.

I'm so relieved we won't have to deal with the pesky constitution any longer, Obama knows best! What will we ever do when he's gone?

Good luck getting anything past the fools in Congress who have their hands out to the NRA. We have a right to have guns. But guess what, we don't have a right to have ammunition. So lets lock up all the ammunition.

Great response to donnaw carlitosway. Love it. Thanks. Some people just don't get it and never will.

Oh Donnaw get over it your people LOST Obama is the President so deal with it. And if you have no compassion for the 20 CHILDREN murdered with Weapons that do not belong on the streets YOU ARE AN ISSUE to the reality of having safer streets and schools for children. You IMO are so close to Limbaugh when it comes to the real TRUTH OF THIS COUNTRY. No one wants to take away any rights THEY JUST WANT ASSAULT WEAPONS and multi shot clips OFF THE STREETS. If your hateful Republicans wanted this YOU WOULD JUMP FOR JOY... You apparently have no clue as to who is against the American people. watch the movie Stepford Wives you might like it...Until the end when a REAL woman fights back

And Biden says Obama could take unilateral action, without congressional approval to do what he feels best as far as solutions. Does the title dictator sound appropriate?
