MADISON — The Wisconsin Legislature begins its two-year session with the swearing in of new members.

Twenty five new Assembly members and three new state senators officially take the oath of office on Monday and begin their terms.

There are 14 new Democrats and 11 new Republicans in the Assembly. There are two new Republicans and one new Democrat in the Senate.

Republicans have control of both houses, just as they did during the previous two-year session. They have a 59-39 advantage in the Assembly and an 18-15 edge in the Senate.

Republican leaders say they are focused on passing a bill making it easier to open a new iron ore mine near Lake Superior early in the two-year session.

"I doubt one person that blogs on here is outside the bounds of the 47% that the Romney Nuddles consider trash."

Why would you make a statement that is an obvious lie??

Do you have a link to a direct comment?

Well, the law doesn't actually provide for legal penalties, it provides that the state DWD will act as advocate for the employees affected in placing wage and benefit claims. Most likely the private money folks felt the costs incurred through this were worth it to them in some way, so flouting the law may actually have saved them money.

Good they want to do something start with this. Golden Guernsey plant had been under the ownership of a Los Angeles private equity firm since last year. They closed the plant without notifying the State. So let's see if democrats and republicans have any guts or if their cowards. Make it know that the people of Wisconsin will not tolerate this kind of business practices.
