Baldwin 1 of 12 new US senators taking oath
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin is among a dozen new U.S. senators taking the oath of office.
Vice President Joe Biden swore in the 12 new senators Thursday, as well as those who won another term. Democrats tightened their grip on the Senate with 55-45 edge following the November elections.
Baldwin is Wisconsin’s first female senator and also the first openly gay candidate ever elected to the chamber. She defeated former Gov. Tommy Thompson, who had never before lost a statewide race.

Im just glad this article clears up any doubt that tammy is the first openly gay candidate ever elected to the chamber. I'm not sure if I have had my fill of her gayness all over the tv and news print for the last year. Thanks for being clear AP.

nicksmom, that is true, another example, voting Walker to defeat the recall then 5 months later vote for Obama... backwards to say the least.

I think with Baldwin and Johnson each being so new to the Senate it gives some new life to the body and new perspectives for WI, Feingold and Kohl while decent guys were a bit stale and ineffective.
