Wis. budget panel approves mining bill
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin Legislature’s budget committee has approved a Republican bill that would overhaul the state’s mining regulations.
The Joint Finance Committee’s 12-4 vote Monday sends the bill on to the full Senate and Assembly.
The Senate is expected to take up the measure on Wednesday. The Assembly is expected to follow next week. Passage is all but certain. The GOP controls both houses and Republican Gov. Scott Walker has touted the bill as his signature job creation plan.
The measure is designed to clear the regulatory path for Gogebic Taconite’s plans for a huge iron mine near Lake Superior. Republicans maintain the mine would create hundreds of jobs for the region. Democrats and environmentalists, though, contend the bill would open the door for pollution that would devastate the pristine area.

Republican lemmings don't have a choice. They have to pay back their mining interest's campaign donations somehow. Even if it gets bogged down with lawsuits in perpetuity, the Republicans can tell Goegebic, "At least we tried to get you a return on your donation investment"

It is a very sad day for Wisconsin. I grew up in Northern Wisconsin. I guess if you're not a "tree hugger" you are not going to comprehend what will be lost.
62 percent said they opposed the bill, 29 percent support the bill
The poll says 73 percent of Democrats oppose the bill, while 45 percent of Republicans favor it. 69 percent of people who say they are independent oppose the bill

171,000,000 divided by 2,000 = 85,500
85,500 x 20% = 17,100
17,100 x 2,000 = 34,200,000
171,000,000 - 34,200,000 = 136,000,000
83 x 2000 = 166,000
136,000,000 + 166,000 = 136,166,000
see liars can figure it's only 136,166,000 loss to the state oh yeah the 83 is average tax cut so the 136,166,000 number might be off a little

Because you are showing great concern for the environment this bill should make you very angry...
"New numbers show the controversial mining bill would mean taking away tens of millions of dollars that would otherwise be used for recycling and environmental protection."
"The bill would reduce those fees to about 3 cents per ton. The report says the move means Gogebic Taconite wouldn't have to pay the state about $171 million annually it would otherwise owe."

Has the wastewater treatment facility owned by the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa been cleaned up yet? Are they still getting violations from the EPA for "releasing excessive amounts of E. coli, phosphorous, and suspended solids into Denomonie Creek", which, according to an issued permit, runs into the Bad River.

Walker and his party have failed to account for the opposition of native Americans. This will become a federal issue before it is over, native Americans may yet save the environment for future generations.

This must be some of that 'cooperation' promised by the R's. Oh, and 62% of us in WI are against this. But there I go again, thinking the R's actually give a crap about what their constituents think; it's not about them, it's about their corporate donors....
