Judges rule against GOP in redistricting lawsuit
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A federal court has given groups suing the state broad access to computers used by the Republican-controlled Legislature to redraw political boundaries in 2011.
Monday’s ruling by a panel of three judges in U.S. District Court in Milwaukee is the latest setback for Republican lawmakers who have repeatedly tried to block releasing documents related to the long-running case.
The ruling says the groups suing must have access to the computers immediately as they are “extremely likely” to contain information that should have been disclosed before the case went to trial last year.
The judges said it is likely some form of fraud, misrepresentation or misconduct has occurred.
The lawsuit was brought by a group of Democrats and immigrant rights group Voces de la Frontera.

Wislady it was ruled against and you need to read truthful news to find the truth. Appeal to Supreme Court
Despite previously saying that the maps drawn by Republicans "have largely been vindicated" by the court, Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen (R) appealed the three-judge panel's decision regarding the two Assembly districts they ordered to be redrawn. The appeal went directly to the U.S. Supreme Court, who was required to take the case.[61]
Democrats called the move unnecessary and expensive. Assembly Minority Leader Peter Barca (D) stated, "Does their appetite for wasting taxpayer money on protecting their own political interests ever end? It must be the first time in history anyone has appealed their 'vindication' to the Supreme Court."[61]
In response to criticism, Van Hollen said, "While some view the adverse portion of the district court decision as being inconsequential, I disagree. Any time a federal court rejects a state redistricting statute, and decides to redraw or adjust a legislative district, it is a serious matter and appropriate for appellate review."[61]
Van Hollen dropped his appeal on June 18, 2012, agreeing to pay plaintiffs Voces de la Frontera over $185,000.[62] BTW Van Hollen needs to go to He is to uphold laws and is right in with the GOP corruption

carlotosway--I had a different impression of what ozzman was saying. I may be wrong, and you may be right, but I thought he was saying that if you want to see a case where the Democrats have done exactly what the Republicans in Wisconsin have done, then you need look no further than Illinois. The Democrats there have drawn up voting districts to give them the advantage, just as the Republicans here have done. He's right--both parties do it...and it is shameful when either does it. In my opinion, voting districts should be permanently drawn up by some impartial body and then left alone. Look, county borders don't change. State borders don't change. Neither should voting districts. The people who live in a certain district should have certainty and permanence, just as they do when voting for city, county, or state positions.

Like DHS says: If you have done nothing wrong you have nothing to hide. The fact that they resist the release of the documents is an admission of guilt.

Of course in the last sentence, I meant partial rather than impartial. The whole point is that the judges were asked to determine whether or not it is likely some form of fraud, misrepresentation or misconduct has occurred. And their answer was YES. To say so is NOT to demonstrate partiality but to answer the question they were asked to answer.

Wislady, sometimes it seems like you don't want people to respect you. What a foolish comment about the judge's impartiality. Had the judge spoken BEFORE the hearing, BEFORE seeing any evidence, then your comment would be valid. But since the comment was made AFTER examining the evidence, it is NOT a question of partiality, but of what was SEEN and HEARD by the judges. I suppose that if a judge found a Republican guilty of murder after seeing DNA EVIDENCE in court all over the victim's body you would call him impartial because he actually had the nerve to examine the evidence and then decide based upon it.

Yeah Wislady they dont want to "create" an jobs. Do you ever review anything you post? What politician doesnt want to wave their magical "job creation wand"? The facts are this, the repubs have had total power, similar to dems in Washington, for 2+ years and Wisconsin is near the bottom in just about every "job creation" category. I would expect a personal responsibility republican like yourself to hold your leaders responsible. Unfortunately you are just rooting for your team, not hoping for success of our state. The policies of the republicans have not given us any massive new job increases, there are no factories moving here, there may be a new mine that will provide a few jobs but will not make up for the jobs lost in many other parts of the state.
Rhetorical terms that you use are not at all based in reality, simpl in Republican Tea Party Land only. All people in public office want more work for their constituents, to suggest otherwise is ridiculous, that is what we have come to expect from you.
You want to whine about litigation, yet NOTHING out of your mouth about the abuse of filibuster abuse in Washington. You moan about liberal judges, yet the conservative Wisconsin Supreme Court which is CONSTANTLY legislating from the bench, and not a whisper. You contradict yourself all the time and it is quite entertaining.

What is most frustrating is that almost everything these guys do seems to be caught in litigation. What a waste!! They had a chance to push their agenda and didn't need to break laws. While they still have a super majority in the state and have had for 2+ years , what have they accomplished? While I don't agree with their agenda, they have really done a poor job of things, top to bottom.

The maps make sense to me. I live in Janesville but my State Senator only represents a small segment of Janesville. We don't belong to Milton or Janesville. Our section of Janesville goes to Elkhorn. We don't have anything in common with Elkorn. We shop and live in Janesville and our kids go to Milton. Why am I in Kedzie's district.

Crazy Map!
