Walker to increase school aids $129M
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker will propose a modest increase in funding for Wisconsin public schools in his budget to the Legislature on Wednesday, two years after his steep cuts and all but elimination of collective bargaining for teachers sparked the unsuccessful movement to recall Walker from office.
Walker is also making incentive money available, which could be used as incentive payments for teachers based on how well schools perform on state report cards, Walker told The Associated Press in an exclusive interview.
Walker provided details of his education funding plan to the AP ahead of its public release Sunday. Not only will he put more money into K-12 schools in his two-year budget, Walker will increase funding for the University of Wisconsin System and technical colleges two years after their funding was also slashed.
The roughly 1 percent increase in aid to schools Walker is proposing comes after he cut aid by more than 8 percent in the first year of the last budget. Schools would get $129 million in aid under Walker’s plan, but total K-12 funding would go up $276 million.
Walker will not lift the lid on revenue limits, which determine how much state aid and property tax income school districts can spend. Walker said he was concerned about moves that might cause property taxes to increase.

Very well said.

So none of the catastrophic predictions of ACT 10 happened and now there is an increase in funding, albeit modest but an increase nonetheless and there is still whining? Good Lord certain groups will never develop any shame and save the embarrassment they display to the rest of the World. I remember growing up in a union household and wondering why the stereotypes people spoke of about them were made, my parents didn't display any of those traits, as an adult the more and more I see from these groups I understand where those stereotypes came from, like most stereotypes they are based in many truths.

moo you too are indeed without a clue = clueless. If you want to compare increases or decreases in either program feel free, that would be at least similar. The failed comparison I addressed was comparing the full budget amount from one program with ONLY the increase(s) to another...apples to oranges. But based on your posting history expecting you to grasp details, not spoon fed, are too much to expect.

Wish those rich Democrats would pay their fair share. Now you may ask, "What does this have to do with the article?" The answer is "Nothing" like several of the comments. Just wanted to put my two cents in.

Lar, he didn't fix anything - we still have a $3 billion structural deficit. Walker just doesn't have the stones to admit it by using GAAP. Kicking the can down the road by increasing our debt and then claiming to have a budget surplus.

Carlito,
.
I've worked in the Charter School downtown.. Met the studetns and faculty and support volunteers...Have you?
.
You speak of the "results" and the "kids they send there" as if they were so much trash.
.
That school is working... So many of the students attending the downtown charter school are taking advantage of what might be a last chance for them... It may very well be their fault they are there... sometimes not... I don't really see how that makes much of a difference. Not every kid is going to fit into the regular system.
.
Gov Walker took a situation that did not have enough money... He worked with it by making cuts rather than allowing debt to continue to increase... As it can be afforded, some of that money goes back... This is common sense for a Conservative or a Liberal..
.
I wish folks would stop trying to ascribe evil motivations to everybody... Sometimes its just about running the budget in the black.

badger put down the kool-aid and give reading a try. If the leftest poster would have stated what you DECIDED to write there would have been no argument. What you attempted to do is an often failed left fringe trick of an intentional red herring, or a deflection from the original point; in this case contention of dishonest comparison.
If you want to attempt to defend the previous wild claim please do so by addressing what was stated. By all means if you think comparing the full amount for one budget item with just the increases for another I would love to read you rationed and logical retort...the floor is yours.

Wealthy people with money like wislady want Walker to screw over hardworking taxpayers, small business and schools so they themselves don't have to pay. Walker is just a puppet to protect their wealth

Cutting 8% last year and returning 1% this year is not dishonesty by showing how generous you are. RAF, you've got to be kidding. You need a session with Dr. Phil.

The way the AP writes it, it makes it appear that there have never been budget cuts to schools.
Doyle also raised taxes by 2 Billion, and used 2 Billion in stimulus funds to try to balance the budget.
Thank you, Walker, for NOT increasing taxes by 2 Billion dollars!
I am not dissing Doyle, just pointing out the facts.

And I suppose he is going to use the increase as a plus even though he made dramatic cuts in education two years ago. The cuts still outweigh the additional funding and the damage has been already been done to many school districts and the students they serve. Walker won't fool the voters should he run for re-election.
