MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The president of the state Senate is trying to gather support for a bill that would require the Wisconsin Supreme Court to take any lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of state statutes directly and decide the matter within 150 days.

Sen. Michael Ellis, a Neenah Republican, sent an email to all legislators on Thursday asking for co-sponsors.

The bill comes after a multiple parties filed lawsuits challenging Republican Gov. Scott Walker’s contentious law stripping most public workers of nearly all their union rights and a GOP-authored law requiring voters to show photo identification at the polls.

Ellis writes in his email the bill would streamline the process.

A conservative four-justice majority currently controls the Supreme Court.

Wislady - If it weren't for gerrymandering the democrats would be the majority in the assembly now. They also won the senatorial election if you noticed. I would say the repubs have very tenuous hold on this state, and their base of angry old white men is dying off. I don't think they can gerrymander, obstruct voting or pour enough money into this state, much less the country to continue to hang on, if they don't change. But you and your cohorts continue on with the myths you believe and watch as history leaves you behind.

Dems have the majority in Wisconsin. Since when?

916WI - I don't think you can count. 200,000 more people voted for Democrats in the assembly than voted for the repubs. I do believe that constitutes a majority.

Wow professor--that's an interesting(and ignorant) take on what a majority of the state's voters asked for! Didn't you get enough sleep last night or are you always so grumpy:)

The GOP has gerrymandered itself into near perpetuity, decimated public unions for the SOLE purpose of putting practical limits on the opposition financially, tried to restrict access to the polls under the guise of voter i.d., and now have decided that purchasing the supreme court via WMC wasn't enough. Now they want their judicial purchases to rubber stamp their legislation quicker. If they had a conscience, they'd be ashamed. If the voters who put them there were able to generate thoughts of their own, they might see what the GOP has done to this once proud state.

We live in interesting times. We have 3 of the conservative members of the supreme court that would have been considered criminals 20 years ago. How far the right has fallen, they will do anything, just to support this cowardly bully we have in the statehouse. I only hope we can recover from this corruption.

Not any more hilarious that a "shill" who ignorantly labels members of the high court as "domestic abusers":)

dtb--how would it backfire? If they don't push this, the legislation gets held up in the lower courts in Madison regardless of which way the high court leans. It's a win-win from the Republican's perspective.

The "liberal judge's" flawed opinion? What about your flawed opinion? Mariann Sumi one of those "liberal judges" was appointed by Tommy G Thompson. I love how a conservative poster like Darlene posts an OPINION about another flawed one? Hilarious even for a schill like her.

""How about when radical leftist judges think they have the ability to legislate from the bench?"" and of course the domestic abusers in the high court that you follow so blindly don't ever do that right? Conservative judges are the models of consistency and law.....islady oncce wgain repeating talking points and showing us the true meaning of credibility. Have you once had an original thought that you didn't find on Brietbart or Foxnews?

Righties want to fastrack this because they have a 4-3 majority. If Roggensack losses her seat this could backfire.

janesvillean....no one is talking about dropping judicial review. We're simply talking about fast tracking the process. You and your ilk should be applauding this. For months we have heard that Walker's legislation in "not working", when in reality much of it is being stalled by the left in our court system. With these changes, the legislation would be quickly implemented and the liberals wouldn't have to come off as being so ignorant when they make their unsubstantiated claims!:)

Time for the SC to do a "judicial review" of the liberal judge in Madison, and his flawed opinion.

I think it would be for the best if we just let the current court system take it's time and give Governor Walker another term in office to finish the good work he has started.

It's called "judicial review", and it has a long history in US constitutional law and before that, English common law. But you "originalists" don't recognize the actual history of the constitution or the republic, so let's just do whatever the heck we want in Fitzwalkerstan.

Of course the GOP want the higher court to take it as it is majority conservative and they know they will have an edge. Corruption at its finest.... They are changing the constitution and getting away with it, to benefit themselves The Justice system is not what they use to be: That being HONEST and Doing the RIGHT thing FOR THE PEOPLE and Honoring the Constitution of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
