Wis. Assembly Republicans lift fundraising ban
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The Wisconsin state Assembly has agreed to lift a ban that had kept most of its members from raising money during the budget period.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports Friday that the Republican-controlled Assembly Organization Committee approved the decision on a 5-3 party line vote on paper ballot Thursday.
Under the new policy, Assembly members, as well as their campaign committees and support committees can raise money anywhere in Wisconsin except in Dane County, unless their district includes that county.
The vote to change the policy, in effect since 2009, was done on a paper ballot circulated by Republican Speaker Robin Vos. The Senate doesn’t ban fundraising during the budget period.

To the Gazette staff who deletes comments: You are as close to a Communist as possible. Nothing in my post was vulgar or obscene. It was just a question that was prompted by another posters accusations of vulgarity. I noticed you did not censor their post. Thanks for saving the world Comrade!

So she's always walking around with her nose in the air.
It's comical, but I don't think that it is vile.

So according to the majority of you people, it is okay for the Senate to raise funds during a Budget Period, but not the Assembly? If you had noticed, the ban was just in place for the Assembly, not the Senate. So it was okay for the Senate to keep raising funds during a Budget Period, but not the Assembly? If you are going to place rules on Fund Raising during a certain period, the rules should be for both, not just for one.

Oh, and Wislady, if you can't provide proof that unions were allowed to donate (when the bill that was passed read for ALL fundraising), then quit telling lies. Hard thing to do for a Republican, I know, but you can do it!

" Then, as often happens, people get greedy and forget what purpose they are supposed to serve." Oh.... Wislady.... I almost thought you were talking about the Republican politicians and the Big money cronies that bought them.If the glove fits though...

Wislady likes to talk about others "credibility" whcih makes me laugh because she is EASILY the biggest shill on these blogs and that is saying something.
Useret- yeah they can both do it, but only one party voted for this. This means that the lawmakers will be "open for business" during budget talks.

Far as I can tell, the fund raising allows BOTH parties to partake. Sounds like those on the Left think it should be only their side that is allowed to raise money.

Yes, proartist
There was, "once upon a time", a period when unions were a good thing. Then, as often happens, people get greedy and forget what purpose they are supposed to serve. The union of today, is nothing like what it used to be (except for the arm twisting and thuggery).
Intimidation and thuggery were on display AGAIN in Madison, as the “Wisconsin Day of Action Against WMC.” rally was held. Coincidence, that again, the WMC building was vandalized with spray paint and had windows broken?
Time for a do over on the image of the present day union.

I'm not sure what difference it makes. John will keep donating to Dick like he always has, and Dick will keep putting John's business, or non-profit in the budget like he always has. That's why John and his friends pay to keep Dick in office.
Isn't that sort of how it works?

Once upon a time, Wisconsin was an honorable place where our legislators had no fear of the public seeing and knowing what they were doing. Now we have restrictions on camera use, frosted glass on windows in the Capitol, bans on the public using writing instruments and "electronic devices", secretive paper ballots, closed-door-deals, and millions of dollars influencing State legislative and executive offices under the guise of PACs and other shill organizations for the corporate elite. Walker and his cronies have irresponsibly flung Wisconsin's nationally-respected heritage into the gutter and it is the PEOPLE who will help us eventually climb back out when he is gone - which ever comes first out of office or behind bars.

The law the democrats signed in 2009, did not bar unions from donating. Why should only one party benefit?
If they can't fund raise, then unions should also not be able to contribute to democrats.

I thought "fund raising" on taxpayer time was illegal. Oh I forgot, if Conservatives say it's okay, then it's okay.
