JANESVILLE The Rock River in Newville was at 8.38 feet Saturday. Flood stage is 5.5 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

At Afton, the river was at 11.7 feet. Flood stage is 9 feet.

Both are up only slightly since Friday.

The river is expected to crest at 12.2 feet Tuesday in Afton. That’s down from Saturday’s prediction of 12.3 feet.

Today’s forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of rain. The chance of rain increases to 40 percent Monday and 60 percent Tuesday.

On Saturday, the city of Janesville said it had finished sandbag-filling operations. The city credited “wonderful efforts of volunteers, city crews and Rock County inmates” for the early finish. No volunteers are needed today.

Those needing sandbags today can pick them up at the City Services Center, 2200 Highway N, Janesville. Sandbags are free and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
