Rock County announces sandbag stations

Rock County and township officials are staging sandbag stations this week for areas in the path of potential major flooding along the Rock River.

Residents under the threat of flooding can get sand and sandbags at the following locations: n Town of Rock: Call Town Chairman Mark Gunn at 608-752-8569 for sandbags. Sand will be available at the Rock Town Hall at 5102 S. County D, Afton.

  • Town of Milton, town of Fulton, and Newville--Crews are filling and distributing sandbags at the former Red Apple at Highway 59 and East Richardson Spring Road.

  • Town of Beloit—A self-service sandbag filling station will be available for town of Beloit residents at the Town Hall Garage, 2871 S. Afton Road. Users are encouraged to bring their own shovels, and will need to fill, transport and place the bags on their own. For details, call the town garage at 608-364-2987 or the public works department at 608-364-2982.

The sheriff’s office recommends that residents avoid traveling across high water on roads. Drivers or residents should to report hazardous flood conditions by calling Rock County 911 Communications at 608-757-2244.

People with questions about sandbagging or other flood concerns should call town officials or the Rock County Emergency Management Division at 608-758-8440.
