MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) ó Police are searching for a man suspected of stabbing a Capitol Police officer in a state office building.

Stephanie Marquis, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Administration, which oversees the Capitol Police, said in a statement that two Capitol officers responded to what she called a duress alarm in the state office building in Milwaukee early Wednesday afternoon. The officers were confronted by a man who stabbed one of them in the neck before fleeing.

Marquis said the injured officer was taken to a hospital and is in stable condition.

Marquis said the officers were not responding to a hostage situation. She said Milwaukee police have taken the lead in the investigation. A spokesman for that agency didnít immediately return messages.
