Interstate extension to County G now unlikely
JANESVILLE
Barring miraculous intervention, a proposed extension between County G and Interstate 90/39 is dead.
In an unexpected twist, the Rock County Board of Supervisors voted 14-11 to table a decision on the extension until Feb. 28.
“It would be almost impossible to do the work that is needed to be done in that time frame,” said Ben Coopman, Rock County Public Works director.

The Board’s decision to delay voting on this project is a travesty. How in the world can we advance economic development if we fail to approve needed infrastructure improvements? This is not a Beloit project, but rather, a Rock County project that cost $22 million dollars and would be financed primarily by the State of Wisconsin. I can sympathize with the farmer whose land will be cut into two parcels, but this issue is about much more than farmland preservation. Rock County has suffered more than any other county in this state during this recession with our loss of major employers. Road projects that improve our infrastructure bring good paying jobs during construction and increase the likelihood of landing a future employer that requires highway access. Good paying, family supporting jobs were lost by this vote of our County supervisors.

County G is Prairie Ave in Beloit and Beloit Ave in Janesville. It runs past BTC.
This extension to the interstate would not have done much to help Janesville as the proposed route would be to link up the north side of Beloit. If anything it would have meant less truck traffic coming in on Hwy 11 (Avalon Rd) and turning south to head to Beloit.
In Beloit it would have meant less traffic coming in on Shopiere Rd and turning on Cranston going past Telfer Park. It definitely would have been a benefit to the northside of Beloit, except one of the proposed (and favored) routes would encourage truck traffic to continue on to Hwy 51 while going past an elementary school.

Maybe their tired of taking peoples land for their own agenda which nowadays never seems to be right. Spending money which isn't there. I'm glad it didn't go through, There is enough road and you don't need access to the interstate every mile.

Truck traffic is bad on interstate around janesville something should be done sooner it's a crisis out there. I'm amazed there hasn't been more accidents. At least require truck drivers to conform to one lane and speed until expansion is complete. I'm witnessing truck drivers hogging the lanes & utilizing their vehicles as a weapon. Its like they're playing games & trying to make it more unsafe.

Once again our wonderful county board shows they don't have the brass to do what they were elected to do....make the decisions that need to be made.
Any of you who have not yet attended a county board meeting to witness their ineptness in person should do so.
If for no other reason than to see what a colossal waste of tax money can be assembled at one time under the guise of county government.
They should hand out barf bags to the audience.
