ATHENS, Wis. (AP) — A 73-year-old woman has died and her 71-year-old husband is in critical condition after their buggy collided with a pickup truck near Athens.

The Marathon County sheriff’s office says the crash happened just arter 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Town of Johnson.

Investigators say Daniel Beiler of rural Athens was driving the buggy, and his wife, Mary Beiler, died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office says a preliminary investigation indicates the buggy may have failed to stop at a stop sign or may have failed to yield after stopping at the stop sign.

WSAW-TV (http://bit.ly/QN8ov2) reports investigators are working to determine if the buggy driver will be cited.

The driver of the pickup was not hurt.
