Beloit man arrested on 5th OWI charge
BELOIT—A Rock County deputy was able to avoid a head-on collision Sunday afternoon as a Beloit man drove his vehicle straight toward the deputy’s squad car.
According to a Rock County Sheriff’s Office news release, the deputy was traveling in the 900 block of Vine St., in the city of Beloit, when he noticed a 2004 Pontiac Aztek heading straight toward him.
The deputy was able to avoid a collision and stopped the vehicle driven by Jose E. Jimenez Valencia, 57, of Beloit. During the traffic stop, the deputy saw an open can of beer in the driver’s console and could smell the odor of intoxicants coming from Valencia, who also was slurring his words.
When Valencia failed field sobriety tests, he was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated after revocation, reportedly his fifth offense, and open intoxicants.
Valencia is being held at the Rock County Jail where he is scheduled to make his initial court appearance today.
