Governor appoints new chief for troubled agency
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The former head of the Marshfield Clinic has been tapped by Gov. Scott Walker to temporarily lead the state’s troubled agency in charge of job creation.
Walker announced Friday that Reed Hall will be interim chief executive officer at the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. He will serve until a search committee selects a permanent replacement.
The agency created last year has made a number of high-profile gaffes, including not keeping tabs on $69 million in loans. Of those, $9 million were overdue.
The current CEO Paul Jadin is resigning at the end of the month. Hall’s first day at WEDC will be Nov. 2.

Schnibbs......yes, he should. As should all of the Democrat and Republican representatives that sit on the board of this agency. It doesn't sound like they are saying otherwise. They all admit that there is a problem and they are in the process of fixing it. Now a question to you. Obama went in front of the country and told us that if he didn't have the country's economic problems fixed after 3 years, he would be a one term president. I think that we can all agree that with an additional $6 trillion in national debt, real unemployment numbers eclipsing 10% and economic growth near stagnant at around 1.5%, that the problems have not come close to being fixed. Based on your previous statement, surely you cannot support Obama(despite his repeated claims that it's STILL Bush's fault) after the complete failure of his policies and his blatant ineptitude when it comes to dealing with our economy.......can you?

While I still think there's more in store for Governor Walker and the John Doe investigation, I'm starting to see how some people think that he had absoultely no idea what was going on and that he's a terrible judge of character and talent. I'm not totally buying it, but certainly see where that line of thinking comes from.

Wake up - It was the fault of B U S H !
He messed up our economy and war and war and war. Regarding WALKER - WALKERLIES is correct. As JOHN DEAN (former Nixon White House Counsel) said Walker is MORE "NIXONIAN THAN NIXON" - If you cannot figure that out...it is NOT a compliment! NO JOBS in WI = Walker.

Walker is and always has been one who looks after the ones who put him in office. He will soon pay the price for his sinful past.

Schnibs, "Walker was still the boss. He took office in January. It is still his mess. Quit making excuses for him. He is inept."
Great perspective! With beliefs such as this, there is no way you could support Obama in the upcoming election without being a total hypocrite. I think more and more of the American citizens are starting to rebel against the "it's all Bush's fault" rhetoric and see Obama as he truly is......completely inept. Thank you!

Any govt waste is inexcusable. If these people can't "find" funds I recommend a criminal investigation. This should happen any time public monies are lost/unaccounted; regardless of political leanings.

There is no excuse for the lack of oversight, but it is being dealt with.
Much money was wasted and "lost" under the previous administration. Walker paid back the monies that Doyle illegally used...does he get credit for that?

"Apparently it ran well pre Walker with government workers because there was no bad press that I recall."
Really? How about the money that Doyle stole from other accounts that Walker had to pay back. How about the credit for that?
Again..........what was Barcus doing on the board, sleeping? Or was he assisting in making sure the whole thing didn't work, so he could then "out" it?

"In addition to seeking answers on why oversight of the loans was neglected, Walker, a Republican, said he also wanted to investigate the wisdom of loaning the money in the first place. Most or all of the loans were originated by the administration of his Democratic predecessor, Jim Doyle.
"Were there abnormally high levels of risk?" Walker asked."

How very interesting.....I guess this article in the Gazette forgot to mention that part. Peter Barca is also on the board.....does he bear any responsibility?

Works both ways people. Where did all our taxpayer money go that went to Solyndra? Why are we going to lose billions of taxpayer dollars on GM? Latest estimate is about 30 billion. The new Chrysler paid back its loan with enough interest to cover the 1 billion the taxpayers will lose on the bankrupt Chrysler. Both sides talk about saving money through ending fraud in programs and identify such fraud but do not take significant action to do so. Both sides project as savings money not even yet spent or money that is not going to be spent on future wars ... Not jobs created but jobs saved. Think all of our politicians at both the state and federal level need some remedial math and finance courses. Both sides very guilty of "fuzzy math". imo

When we elect an anti-government Republican to office, it should not be a surprize when the government doesn't work. That's their whole plan. (fixed typos)

Walker does not care about Wisconsin. He is just using us as a stepping stone to get to the national stage. I suspect a cabinet position is in order for Walker if Twitt Romney and Cryin Ryan win in the next couple weeks. Then, the real light will shine on how Walker and his cronies have messed up the finances in this State. He will be like grumpy Grandpa Tommy Thompson and claim he left Wisconsin with a surplus. Heck, he just put $109 million into our rainy day fund. Too bad we will have to use it and then some to fix the mess we are left with.

I expect, with Walker's election and policies, including the reorg of the Department of Commerce, that all the government employees who watched over this stuff left and retired. Wasn't his hire of Brian Deschane involved? $81,500 a year, no degree, and two drunk driving arrests.

Co-chair of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee, as if it matters to you, wislady. I guess the people with actual oversight authority are those you wish you didn't have to think about. They actually bothered to hold a hearing on this thing where the Grand Old Party failed to, you know, hire anyone to do this thing that banks normally do, which is, you know, make sure that the depositors' money is paid back. Please note that in this case, we the taxpayers are the depositors.

What an utter joke the Republican Party has become. Agencies created in the middle of the night without hearings and planning and taxpayer input tend to be very poorly constructed and managed. How surprising.

Before you judge him keep in mind he has been pretty busy the last couple years on the road getting donations for his campaign, legal defense fund, and campaigning for other Republicans. He can't help it if his appointees are making mistakes. Seriously though I look forward to seeing the names companies that have not paid back. I wonder if they thought the loans were forgiven in lieu of campaign donations. It will be very intersting.
