MADISON—Hunters have reported killing four wolves during the opening 24 hours of Wisconsin’s first organized wolf hunt.
According to the state Department of Natural Resources, hunters reported taking one wolf in the far northwestern management zone, one wolf in the far northeastern zone, one wolf in the mid-northwestern zone and one wolf in the central zone. Hunters haven’t reported killing any wolves in the mid-northeastern zone or the southern zone.
The hunt opened Monday and is scheduled to run through February, although it could end sooner in management zones where hunters meet zone-specific kill quotas.
The DNR has set the overall statewide quota at 116 wolves.

I think more people died from their own stupid decisions in the past 10 minutes than have been killed by wolves in the past 200 years.

Is Sigma the old Hannah? That rant sure looks familiar.

" I think drunk drivers and cigarettes killed more people in the past week than wolves have in the past decade."

Sigma, have you ever chased a helium baloon with a basket attached down the highway?

Bring them!! I'd rather have wolves than thugs roaming the streets at night. if they are in your area and you're afraid...carry a gun...duh...thats what they make them for and its your right. This isnt our world as humans. Why do we have to off every animal we are afraid of? Then once they are at dangerous low levels and in danger of being extinct we suck up more govt money to try and save them. Why do we try to control everything when we cant even control ourselves? I think drunk drivers and cigarettes killed more people in the past week than wolves have in the past decade. I also have a fenced in yard.....not for protection of my dogs, but for others protection. If you have a little dog, a hawk or an eagle could vary well come down and get him... should we kill all them too?

No they are not a rare site in the northern woods. They are a predatory animal and are very hard to hunt. Thats why they use dogs to track them but they are again a very hard animal to hunt. Unless you live up north, don't comment because you don't know what you are talking about! A wolf is a german sheppard on steroids times 10! A full grown man would have the fight of his life if one of them attacked and chances are the man will loose! If the population isn't controlled what will be the excuse when one of them takes a kid in someones backyard playing? That's why measures are being taken to control the population now before they get out of hand.

we should send all the wolves to southern part of the state and see how you like them in your back yard. when they eat your little dog or growl at your child maybe you will view them different.wolves have no use to know one or nothing.

Only 4 in the entire state? Probably because they are actually more rare than assumed. The DNR are idiots.

Perhaps it is fear that drives people to kill wolves. Gives them a sense of control, eh?

Its natural for wolves, they don't have a choice to survive, theflick. We as humans have a choice and can choose to be better and not hurt others. You, I see, have not made that choice. Way to go.

Sweet! They never should have brought them back to begin with! Now if we get them to stop making CWD into something more than it is and issuing endless tags we might be getting somewhere!
