Dane County will get six commercial wind turbines
MADISON—Dane County is getting its first commercial wind turbines.
Epic Systems is building six turbines — each with three 135-foot blades spinning atop a 262-foot tower at its Verona campus.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports a geothermal system already heats and cools the campus and solar panels generate electricity.
Bruce Richards, the company’s director of facilities and engineering, says the addition of the turbines will mean the company can provide about 85 percent of its own energy needs by 2014.
Richards wouldn’t discuss the project’s cost, but said the company expected electrical savings to pay for construction within seven years.
The turbines are expected to be visible from the tall buildings in downtown Madison, including the Capitol.
Epic Systems is a medical software manufacturer.

I was being facetious...there is NO war on women (except for the made up one that democrats want women to believe).

jacose:I was surprised to see both of our comments removed. I suspect wislady pokes "suggest removal" quite a bit. There is probably less agony in getting rid of a legit comment than listening to the wislady making victim noises again.

Gee Gazette- I sure don't understand why you removed my question to wislady asking her what was vulgar. I don't suppose you know either. Or was this yet another example of your incessant fat fingering (typos)?

Lady....don't flatter yourself. My comment by no means vulgar. If that is the way you take it then you are the one with a problem and need to get your mind out of the gutter. Have you not heard of a bag of wind or a blowing hot air? Here is a dictionary link to educate yourself with.

hooray for wind power...it's about time we get back on the ball and start moving forward instead with cleaner energy sources...thank you, Epic, for being a leader...
wislady- where did you get your info about the adjacent landowners? also, Hendricks was not demonized for being a republican; it was her comments to Walker that made the national news that demonized her, and she did it to herself...

Dianne and Mary got caught showing their true colors in front of a video camera and shot themselves in the foot. They made their own beds. No need to make victims out of them. Nobody is going to feel sorry for them.

"she's a Democrat"
I guess that is why Diane Hendricks is demonized, she happens to be a republican. Liberal logic.

I guess that even if the public utilities won't pick up the ball on alternative energies, private industry will take that ball and run with it. Funny how private business doing this has the righties undies all in a bundle; fun to hear them scream about open meetings violations now. What's good for the goose..........

Wisslady: Pssst.....she's a Democrat. Is that what has you miffed? Imagine that, a successful, self made, democratic Gazzillionaire who isn't afraid to share the wealth and pay a decent wage to her employees. Maybe some other mega elite Wisconsin employers should take notes instead of pandering for Right to Work laws so that they can become even richer. The wind farm has been in the works for years, not 4 months as you have exaggerated. Is she wrong for taking advantage of the tax credits? Wouldn't Epic be stupid if they didn't take the crdits? Epic employs thousands of people. Why are they building? To employ many more thousands. There are hundreds of construction workers there for the last dozen years. We should be counting our blessing that she didn't build on the west coast. I wish I could find stats on how much Epic impacts the state financially. My guess is that it is huge.

Right, nemesis.
One reason they said they couldn't put it on Epic property...it was in the flight path of small aircraft for the Verona airport. Where are all the activists? I guess they didn't get the notice of the meetings for this project either. Meetings must have been held in the "Treehouse" at Epic.

People who own property in close proximity to the turbines (who had no idea this plan was in the works) are NOT happy. Why was this done in the dark?

wislady, what you are talking about is preferences and cronyism. This tax credit is a basic pass-through that is available to any taxpaying entity regardless of who "thinks" they "deserve" it.
.
As to the site, it was already approved by the property owners. You do support property owners doing what they want with their property, right? Or is it only property owners you "like" who have rights? It's really amusing how quickly you pivot toward utter corruption. It's basically the entire modus operandi of the modern-day Republicans.

Just imagine. A country full of people with wind turbines on their roofs. So since the City can do it, can the citizens do it to their houses? I would like to out smaller turbines on my roof.

This was a plan that apparently materialized in 4 weeks....amazing. Drive around the Epic campus, does everyone believe this company should be getting huge tax credits for building the wind farm?
Apparently, the people living in the area where the wind farms are to be located, are not very happy.
