Number of deer killed during annual hunt up in Wisconsin
MADISON—While the number of deer killed in Wisconsin during this year’s hunt went up nearly 8 percent, Gov. Scott Walker wasn’t among those attributing to the increase.
Walker said Friday he went hunting but failed to bag a deer.
Walker says he “didn’t even see anything” when he went hunting in Vilas County. There was no snow on the ground, which Walker says complicated the hunt.
Walker’s Department of Natural Resources Secretary Cathy Stepp had better luck. She killed a 7-point buck during the hunt’s opening weekend.
According to the DNR, hunters registered 243,739 deer through the nine-day season that ended Sunday. That’s up 7.7 percent from preliminary numbers last year.

Congrats to Cathy Steep on the 7 pointer. I got a large doe opening weekend and also saw a large buck across the street on someone elses property, but other than that, we didn't see anything unless we were driving into town! The property owner sat out all 9 days and never saw one deer. We had a pack of coyotes come through opening day which we were hoping to take out but they just dissappeared! Oh well, there is always next year. My personal opinion, by getting rid of all the early and extra hunts and sticking to just the traditional 9 day gun hunt will allow the population to build again and we will start to see more deer. The older ones are extremely smart animals and are not easy to harvest. Its not as easy as the TV shows make it look.

Sounds like Walker is trying to pass the buck again.
