AVALON

A fire at the Gavilon grain elevator in Avalon temporarily shut down Highway 140. The highway has been reopened but access to Avalon Road is being restricted.

At 7:58 p.m., firefighters were called to Gavilon for a fire in maintenance shop. It was initially reported as a dryer fire, but this was incorrect, a spokesperson for Gavilon said.

Residents in the area were evacuated for a brief period of time. At 9:34 p.m. they were allowed to return home.

The cause of the fire and a damage estimate is not yet available.
