Wis. spends $26k on new Capitol police uniforms
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two Milwaukee uniform companies have charged Gov. Scott Walker’s administration nearly $26,000 for new state Capitol police outfits.
Invoices show Lark Uniform Outfitters, Inc., billed the state Department of Administration $1,279 for gold and silver buttons and caps. Badger Uniforms billed the agency $24,500 for shirts and pants.
New Capitol Police Chief David Erwin ordered the new uniforms as part of his plan to upgrade the department’s image when he took over in July. The retired Marine and Wisconsin State Patrol veteran also has banned his officers from wearing beards and goatees.

I hope everyone sees as I do that this approach is disjointed from the concept of being fiscally responsible. I do not support the new uniforms, but I am afraid there is more to come like this from our legislators.

Glad to hear that professional appearance is making a comeback....do you think the Janesville teachers ALL will soon look like the professionals that they claim they are, instead of the rag tag FEW that are losing their students (and taxpayers) respect?

wtp - maybe there are just more dems in J-ville than repubs. That would explain how Ryan lost twice in his home town. Hard to be a sore loser when your candidate just won POTUS election.

Darn right - the police should not be wearing BEADS, nor should they have anything to do with GOATS! We all know where that leads...
More or your tax dollars spent unnecessarily to assuage some idiot's ego. And thanks, Lil' Scotty for putting this tool in place!

Wislady - You are starting to disappoint me, "Your description sounds like the protesters at the Capitol", sounds like the old second grade taunt," I know I am but what are you?". I would expect better of you. Maybe the repudiation of the teatard silliness still has you in shock. You will recover my friend. Just get some rest.

In MOST police agencies, officers get a yearly uniform allowance. When there is a complete uniform design change, that is usually the result of a desire to make a statement, rather than out of necessity. Watch for a change that would look more militaristic--or less, depending on who the department head is, and what 'message' s/he is trying to get across. For example, remember Chief Cooper in Madison? He wanted a less intimidating look for his officers, so he made the badge real small, and took off the police patches. My bet is that the new uniform for the Capitol Police will NOT be in the same direction as former Chief Cooper.

Funny watching the backers of guv slippery and his gang, grasping at straws and trying to make, what they think are disparaging comments. Are they aware that the people of this state cast more votes for assembly Democrats than republicans on Nov. 6? Gerrymandering is all that saved them. Oh I forgot, Voter fraud, Voter fraud,Voter fraud! LOL

That is because they are such sore loser and have to much time on there hands to go out and look for a job to keep them busy. Obama will pick up there house payment, food, medicine so they can sit at home stay on line to make comments that have been placed below.

Can someone help me as to the design of these new uniforms? I heard a rumor I don't want to believe. What I heard is they are black, with high black hobnailed boots. Skulls and runic lightning bolts on the collar, black peaked caps with a short patten leather brim, black Sam Brown belts and a swagger stick. Black riding pants. Tell me it isn't true

I think we could save the money by stitching up some uniforms ourselves. Everyone surely has plenty of supplies laying around not in use which could be pooled together. I do not feel it would affect local small business' in anyway. I think the uniform company selected supports out of state interests and not our own.

But remember folks, the state's broke...oh, that's right, thanks to Scooter we can just offset the cost of the uniforms against the officers pay and benefits, well, I'm sure they're thrilled. They may not be able to make their house payment, but at least they'll look good while they're doing it.

Wisslady well said. BTW nice name lol 916WI point shouldn't their company provide them as the are a private group Hired by Scooter without input as he did in Milwaukee. Replacing Union Security Workers with a Private Company
Although the county board rejected replacing courthouse security with a private company in 2009, Walker declared a budget emergency and did it anyway to save $150,000, an overstated number by $53,000. An arbritrator ruled that the county must offer back jobs to 26 laid-off union guards and pay the difference between back wages and unemployment compensation.

Uniforms bought from Koch unlimited. mark-up of 300%, made in China. BTW you got part right, Even GM provided a yearly amount to purchase *work clothing*,Btw not at Tax payers expense.

This is a no brainer on a slow news day.
Gazette, check the budget for what Janesville spends every year replacing uniforms for the police. Current prices for quality uniform shirts are over $50 each, and pants about $40, most issues are 5 or 6 sets of winter uniforms, summer uniforms.

It is a sad day when our governor has made a misstep (by hiring this man to be chief)like this when the state is taking an approach to be fiscally responsible. The chief and governor should not be wasting our tax dollars on this and should focus on doing their jobs instead.

I doubt the uniforms are 0ne-size-fits-all.
Any business which provides uniforms, typically replaces them yearly. It is not a large amount...usually several pair of pants, and several shirts.
Even GM provided a yearly amount to purchase work clothing, it seems like that was around $300.00.

Who cares? This is a drop in the bucket compared to the total state budget. Hard to argue we're broke with expenditures like this, but that lie never bothered Walker. Seems like the no beards is a bigger controversy.
