JANESVILLE—A vehicle crash that closed West Racine Street, from Park to Cherry Streets, for more than five hours early Monday morning has reopened.

According to Janesville police, a car at 2 a.m. Monday crashed into a utility pole at the intersection of West Racine and Lincoln Streets causing the pole to snap and knock power out to homes within a nine block square radius.

Power was restored shortly after 7:30 a.m., according to Sgt. Anne Brophy.

Brian R. Tinkler, 39, of 2536 N. Lexington Drive, was traveling west on Racine when he lost control of his vehicle. He was arrested on a charge of operating while intoxicated, reported to be his second offense, said Sgt. Dean Sukus.

Around 2:30 a.m. Monday, another vehicle crashed into a different power pole, momentarily knocking out power at Crosby Avenue and Rockport Road. But the driver and several occupants fled the scene, Sukus.
