Wisconsin graduation rate improves
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin's public high school graduation rate has improved slightly.
New figures released by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Thursday show a graduation rate of 87 percent in 2011. The U.S. Department of Education requires states to calculate graduation rates based on those students who earn a diploma within four years of starting high school.
The graduation rate of 87 percent is up 1.3 percent from the previous school year.
The previous method of calculation, called the legacy rate, is a formula that counts all students who are expected to graduate in a particular year, including those who drop out, reach maximum age or earn other completion credentials. Students are entitled to free public education in Wisconsin until they reach the age of 20.

What on earth led to my first comment being removed? Is reference to tea party faithful as "tea-baggers" now banned? Better go for equal time and ban all derogatory references to liberals as well...or is it just the conservatives who can't take the heat?!

So Bill, why would anyone be condemning this good news? I mean, come on, you are trying to tell me that Walker had something to do with this? These are 2011 graduation rates. Walker took office in January 2011 and his budget didn't pass until June which is when many of said graduations took place. He obviously had nothing to do with these numbers, either good or bad.

Here's another opportunity for the Democratic party and all it's blind partisans to condemn more good news while they are searching for bad news to celebrate. I'd say thank God there are less than 3 weeks of that baloney to go, but after the Governor wins the recall, as even the Democrats are starting to believe he will, I think they are going to get worse.

As I said in an earlier post on a different story: "Statistics don't lie but you can lie with statistics" and "Figures don't lie but liars figure". I used statistical correlation techniques in my Master's thesis so am well aware of the potential misuse or abuse of statistics. Politicians from all parties are experts at both. The sad thing is that so many people believe the 30 second sound bites on either side instead of looking for Paul Harvey's "the rest of the story".

Yes, Walker should get credit...for changing the measurement method, just like he did with his latest "jobs" report.
