UPDATE: Woman killed in rollover crash near Edgerton
EDGERTON—A 45-year old woman was killed after she was apparently thrown from her vehicle in a rollover crash north of Edgerton this morning, authorities reported.
According to a news release from the Dane County Sheriff’s office and details from Dane County 911 dispatch: The woman was heading east on Highway 51 near County W when her Mitsubishi Montero Sport SUV drifted onto the east shoulder.
The woman then attempted to swerve the vehicle back into the eastbound lane, and the vehicle rolled, witnesses reported. She reportedly was ejected, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash happened at about 7:30 a.m. today.
Authorities were withholding the woman’s identity pending notification of family. The crash remains under investigation, but initial reports showed the woman was not wearing a seat belt.
Fire departments from Edgerton and Stoughton responded, and medics attempted to resuscitate the woman. An emergency helicopter was initially called, but was later canceled.
