Two more doctors wrote sick notes deemed fraudulent

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Friday, January 27, 2012 - 7:02 a.m.

MADISON—The Madison School District has released additional sick notes given to Capitol protesters last year which show two more doctors provided the excuses the district deemed to be fraudulent.

Fifteen doctors who signed the notes have not faced sanctions from the state Medical Examining Board.

The notes were written after hundreds of teachers called in sick last February, closing schools for four days. School district officials required the absent employees to provide notes documenting a doctor visit. The district docked pay from employees who didn’t have a legitimate excuse.

The protests erupted after Gov. Scott Walker proposed cutting collective bargaining rights for most state workers.

The State Journal says a board committee plans to decide next month whether to investigate additional doctors.

SuperDave: Same issue to me when people keep touting "It's all about the kids". I believe that most parents do right by their children by having them in school each and every scheduled day except for illness or a death in the family. However, there are too many parents who take their kids out of school way too often and too often for stupid reasons. But, hey, "it's all about the kids". Yeah, right.

@Sarah: To state the obvious (*sigh*), "parents who take their child out of school for vacation, to avoid a test or project deadline, because it's too cold outside, etc." is an entirely different issue than paid public employees walking off the job.

mistergee: Good comment. I have had a lot of those same thoughts. For example, I have trouble digesting comments pushing for teachers to be fired, lose their rights to teach, have their certifications yanked, etc., because they took part in a protest and school was shut down. Do I agree with what the teachers did? I really don't know. But I bet that at least 50 percent of those attacking teachers because their kids lost a day of school are also parents who take their child out of school for vacation, to avoid a test or project deadline, because it's too cold outside, etc.

Doctors who wrote sick notes for protestors were practicing compassion. If employers grasped the coming damage to their operating funds, shame on them for requesting a note. These people protesting the actions of elected GOP were sick. See previous post.

def. #3 in Webster's "a. sickened by strong emotion (as shame or fear) b. satieated, surfeitted (of fear, with fear, worried), c disgusted, chagrined, d. depressed and longing for something" Just a part of Webster's definition that I know applies to me whenever I recall the events in the Capital in Feb. and March 2011. The protestors WERE sick!
``````
The irony is that some protestors called their local doctors & got notes without ever entering the office, but somehow that is a trust not questioned.
``````
Quite telling that the comments about those naughty doctors/protestors are available, but the comments for two new indictments of Gov Walker's aides were shut down and now it is hard to even find the article. . . .

This was totaly about the way things were done by our soon to be gone gov. It may not have been the best way to go about it but it did happen. Just like scooter thought it was best for him to do what he did. Let the punishment fit the crime. Jail? Really? How many of you took a day of work and called in sick without really being sick? I'm betting almost everyone has done that. Does that not constitute fraud for your employer? Do you want to go to jail for that? Look inside your own self before being so judgemental and see if you haven't done the same thing. Oh I know no one has ever done that. If the shoe were on the other foot would you be protesting it so hottly? I hope so, it is your right. The fact that almost as many signed for the recall as scooter had in total to win the election by might actually say something as to how unhappy this state is. Or how divided it now has become. This state of Fitzwalkerstan will fall, I believe, and in doing so the nation might learn a thing or two about compromising and doing what's right for everyone not just the selected few. Think on this for awhile before you jump to your desicions in a reactionary post. Just my thoughts. Oh and don't forget RECALL WALKER AND COMPANY.

Stomp your feet till you get what you want. Key word WANT. We all don't get what we want in life. I learned that by the time I was 6 or 7. How old are you?

A balanced budget is required in my house, my city and my state. I can't control the knuckleheads in Washington but I have a say in my local Government. Walker is doing what the majority of this state put him in office to do. Doyle was the a fat lazy politician. walker is a fighter, and I back the guy with fight.

4bears, blind allegiance is what unions want from their unquestioned followers. Pay your dues and vote as we say.....HA. That is so not blind.

Keep supporting your unions. I support you. But don't expect me to throw out the Governor who wants the Union of the State Workers to give back a little now that the Doyle and WEA have parted ways..!

This state has many blue collar Republicans that like Morals and Values with our politics. Is Walker the best we have? No. But he's a lot better than Boyle. I mean Doyle.

If the unions were that confident in their workforce, they would allow the State of Wisconsin to be a Right to Work State. Across the board. No loopholes. I do not need a union to save my job. I have changed jobs 4 times, and each time improved my self without the help of a union. Peace

The Unions are in Control still, & the fact that these doctors haven't been (at-best) sanctioned by the State for writing fraudulent prescriptions quantifies that feeling. The Unions represent State Employees, thus also run the State Licensing. Even if the Dept. Of Regulations & Licensing management wanted to go after these doctors & reprimand them (Which is all they'd get.. maybe a small fine).. The Unions wouldn't let them do it. Taking away Collective Bargaining Rights did very little in taking any real power from the Unions in Wisconsin. Those doctors are untouchable for this offense.

Just FYI, the board is independent of the administration whether you believe it or not. These doctors are getting off excessively easy. An RN who forges a document for personal gain, where a narcotic is not involved would generally face 12 months of a limited license, and large fines. These doctors, several which have been the receiving end of multiple malpractice suits, all are getting the same punishment, which is a written reprimand and a small punitive fine (under $1,000). One could really say that these doctors are getting preferential treatment for their crime. I would encourage all of you who are outraged to review the actual disciplinary given. https://online.drl.wi.gov/orders/searcho...

It would be fair to say that these doctors are getting off with serious infractions with only a slap of the wrist.

What's been so harmful to our state is the continued power grab by unions. Even Madison has come to the reality of a small cut in pay and tiny contribution to benefits and pensions. Funny how the big bad Walker only asked for this in the first place and the unions said NO - big fat NO.

Now, even in the most liberal of cities- Madison has bowed to the pressure of over unionization.

Dane County Executive Joe Parisi announced a tentative agreement Thursday between the county and its largest employees union.

The agreement calls for members of AFSCME Local 720 to contribute toward their retirement in 2013 and small cut to pay.
