Police investigating downtown stabbing
JANESVILLE--A 44-year-old Janesville man was treated and released at Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center after he reported Wednesday he was stabbed downtown earlier that afternoon.
Police were dispatched to the hospital at 5:22 p.m.
Janesville police Detective Mike Duerr said Thursday he had not been able to verify some of the facts in the man’s version of the incident. The victim said he was stabbed about 2 p.m. behind Olde Towne Mall, but Duerr said he believes the man was stabbed at about 4:30 p.m. in the vicinity of Centerway and Parker Drive.
Duerr said the victim is somewhat uncooperative, a witness has changed her story and the man suspected in the incident denies involvement.
The Wednesday incident follows a Dec. 30 downtown fight that sent three people to the hospital with stab wounds. That incident remains under investigation.
