Wis. Assembly names 12-12-12 Aaron Rodgers day
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — The state Assembly has passed a resolution naming a day for Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The resolution designates Dec. 12, 2012, as Aaron Rodgers Day. The Assembly passed the resolution unanimously on Tuesday and sent it on to the state Senate.
Rodgers, who wears No. 12, led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory last year and helped them to a 15-2 record this past season. The New York Giants defeated Green Bay in the playoffs and went on to win the Super Bowl.

While I agree that honoring our soldiers is more important, I don't think we need a resolution to do so. We should be bestowing that honor on our own!
And hey... at least they didn't mess up and make it Brett Favre day ....

Sigma40 – Rodgers was in Indianapolis for the Superbowl; he did some of the pregame analysis. He probably has a bright future in that as well. He also lead his team to a Superbowl XLV title last February.
.
Factsplease – Whitney Houston was very important to many people in this country. The media loved her ($$); alive and well, cracked out, and now dead. Service men and women are honored by an entire country for a couple of days a year and respected by most year round. We could probably have an entire network dedicated to people who have lost their lives in the line of duty. No one gets into the military to get recognition. If they do; they are going for all of the wrong reasons. I get a little nauseous whenever people are all of the sudden a super patriot when they are the 500th person to point out that the media has its priorities all wrong.
.
Fool_on_the_hill – 12/23/12 is actually the end of the world according to the Aztecs. Others predict 12/21/12. Either way Rodgers will have his day.

I think Rodgers is awesome, and I love GB football, but, come on man! Seriously? I guess it's appropriate because 12-12-12 is only going to happen this year, why not, but really it's not all that important, and it's in the middle of the playoff push in the NFL and I'm hoping Rodgers has other things on his mind on that day other than this.

Priorities are so messed up. Whitney Houston dies and that's all we hear about, while some young hero gives their life for our country and we barely acknowledge it. Now this athlete is being honored like he's changed the world or something. Sad.

Woodsman - Agree that all those things you listed are beyond important and deserve recognition. That's why there is National Police Memorial Day, International Firefighter Day, Veterans Day, Memorial Day, and so on. All great days for the men and women that deserve recognition.

Although this measure was bound to be popular, the Republican caucus held a secret session, hired a law firm to advise them, and vetted the plan with a convicted lobbyist, then passed the law after midnight after cutting a brief public hearing short. Mere force of habit.

These dumb people just opened a can of worms!
How about a person that died for there country?
The man that finally had enough b@#$% to give the citizens the right to protect themselves at any given time?
I'm sure the list will go on & on.
This kid got paid very well to do a job,so anyone that excels should have a day named after them, not enough days in the year.
When i was young i saved two kids from the river, that surely would've drowned, never got a thank you from them, parents, probably because the kids never told, for fear of punishment,a real hero to me,is someone that does not need a pat on the back, and playing football is NOT a hero!!!

Say what you want. Regardless of how bad everyone says the economy is, sports are still bringing in a ton of money to this state. People love to spend their money on it in Wisconsin. It's a tradition. More power to them.

Albeit I like Aaron Rodgers, this hardly seems like a way to create more jobs in Wisconsin. In fact, I see it as a waste of government funds - all of the time it takes to create a Resolution, make copies of it, send it around to everyone, then following whatever procedures to make it official. It seems more like job security for the legislature.
