Recall challenge deadline looms for Wis. senators

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Monday, February 6, 2012 - 4:12 a.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Four Republican state senators have just a few more days to challenge recall efforts against them.

Democrats fuming over Republican Gov. Scott Walker's contentious collective bargaining law are trying to oust six Republicans from office, including Walker, Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch and Sens. Scott Fitzgerald, Pam Galloway, Terry Moulton and Van Wanggaard. Last month Democrats handed state election officials recall petitions with 2 million signatures.

The state Government Accountability Board has been working to verify the signatures' authenticity. The senators have until Thursday to scour the petitions against them and challenge any questionable signatures.

Walker has until Feb. 27 to file his challenges. Kleefisch has until March 5.

poor, poor foolish little richard...bomp, bomp a loo bomp a wom bam boo...WHERE, exactly, do I say I thought your silliness was directed at me? You read a lot into what you read, little fellow. You're attributing your own hallucinations to me. Your imagination runs wild with you. The world of reality is a stranger to you. You see a lot of things that aren't there. Keep whining, little guy. Your mama's gonna change your diapers any time now. Or maybe you'd rather have your gal pal wislady do it.

wislady...Are you really a fool, or do you just play one on the internet? Every person with a job does not "represent" a political party. You seem to be assuming that if a person is employed, he or she is a Democrat. I should point out, about the Doyle/Georgia Thompson corruption case. Probably a jury trial, but I forget. It was appealed and the conviction was laughed out of court. I think she settled with some compensation, and has been back at work for years (at a different job). Noone ever accused Doyle of a crime, and I'm sure the GOP was looking. Doyle was a jerk but didn't break the law. Guess it helps to have the actual degrees as gov.

wislady--You knew that I had posted about an event in Indiana when you begged me for a link to it. So stop whining now that you have learned that it is true. The time to cry about this story being about Wisconsin was when you came upon the earlier post. But you didn't want to believe that it could possibly be true that a repube could commit voter fraud, so you begged for the story. It's too late to fall back on your, "Oh, but my goodness. How inappropriate to point out that we repubes are lying cheaters. It's not about OUR lying repube cheats...it's about those in some other state." You asked for the story and you got it. @wislady- I'm not finding the story about Walker calling for the John Doe Investigation. I do find that he is willing to talk to the DA with his lawyers. The criminality went on while he was Milwaukee County Supervisor right under his nose. While "his" people were doing this, he was lambasting Gov. Doyle for not monitoring "his" people. Pretty funny really.

@wislady- The point of the excerpt that I posted was not that people in either party have committed crimes but that Walker pointed out that Doyle "condoned unethical and illegal behavior". He even stated " The people of Wisconsin deserve better." He is famous for finger pointing but never admits to any of his own serious failings.

"Charlie committed a crime and will be punished for that crime," said a statement from the state party that said in part, "it is obvious that Mitch Daniels will try anything to take back this fraudulent election, but there's only one thing that should happen now: Vop Osili should become secretary of state, and we should put the embarrassment that is Charlie White behind us."

The Democrats have moved to have Osili, who White defeated in November 2010 by 20 points, 57 percent to 37 percent, to be appointed to the job. The bipartisan Indiana Recount Commission sided with White and rejected the Democrats' attempt to replace him with Osili. But in December, local Judge Louis Rosenberg ruled that Osili should take the job. That decision has been stayed for now.

"The man got beat worse than anyone in modern Indiana secretary of s`tate history, and the voters knew about this issue," said White, about Osili. "They still voted for me. This is pretty bush-league. He does not deserve this office and the Republicans deserve to take this spot because we won it."

"In this case there is no question that Charlie White was the higher vote getter," says Democratic Party lawyer Karen Celestino-Horseman, who supports the guilty verdict. She notes that in her view, it makes sense for Osili to now take the job and says the Democratic Party will be taking further steps to try and ensure that, this coming week.

"If you are going to be concerned about the people who participated in that election, it is justice to put in the person who drew that vote," she told Fox News. "Otherwise, the Republicans get to appoint somebody who did not spend any time, energy or effort in introducing themselves to the electorate, and the electorate got no say in that person taking the office. At least by turning to the second runnerup, he was the choice of 625,000 Hoosiers and that is 625,000 more votes that any appointee would have."

In the coming weeks, the position of secretary of state will become the focus of an intense fight between the Republicans and Democrats over who will control the powerful position, made even more significant in this presidential election year.

White's case will now also wind through the courts and he vows to speak out about what he sees as an injustice.

"You will hear a lot more from me about the equal application of the law that has been applied to me, versus those that are rich and famous."

Here's the story, wislady...from FOXNEWS!! Former Indiana Secretary of State Charlie White calls voter fraud verdict 'a travesty'
FOXNews.com
Calling the jury verdict, "a travesty," Indiana's former top elections official vows to appeal the decision that found him guilty of multiple counts of voter fraud that resulted in his temporary removal from office.

Republican Secretary of State Charlie White was charged with illegally registering to vote at his ex-wife’s house, and was convicted on six of seven felony voter-related counts in the early hours Saturday morning by a Hamilton County jury in Noblesville, Ind., just north of Indianapolis.

"I found out that Indiana is a land of men and not of law," White said in an exclusive Fox News interview, contending that the jury was not given the full instructions on the charges by prosecutors.

"What I think happened yesterday was a total miscarriage of justice and a perversion. The law allows me to do everything I did and the jury not get all the law."

White had insisted that he spent four nights a week at the home, with his ex-wife's blessing, because his son lived there and that he and his fianceé did not want to live together before they married. Prosecutors claimed that he actually intended to live at a condo he bought for his fianceé that was out of the local town council district that he represented.

"At the end of the day, here's what I did," White said. "I was in love. I wasn't married yet. All I wanted to do was get my fianceé out of her parents' home while I was on the campaign trail, wanted her to stay with me and keep the relationship together. I bought a place for her and her kids to live in, but we agreed not to live together until we got married, because I was a former family law attorney. I knew how hard it can be when you are blending in three children, from two different marriages, and now I suppose the Indiana election law trumps me being able to raise my children and step-children the way that we want to."

Shortly after the verdict, Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels appointed a White deputy, Jerry Bonnet, as White's temporary replacement. Convicted felons are not allowed to serve in public office under Indiana law, and White's legal team will move to try and have the felony convictions reduced to misdemeanors, meaning that White would be able to remain in office.

But the Indiana Democratic Party wants the man White beat to take the job.

Right like this will be done by the dead line. How long will these signatures get challenged in the courts. I doubt this will be done anytime soon. They will use delay tactics to stall the recall. That is a good way to annoy voters. In my opinion I would like this done and over with now let the voters decide once and for all if these politicians and our Governor stays or go because that is who decides are the voters. Let’s end this dam thing now.

Indiana's Secretary Of State, a Republican, was convicted of six counts of voter fraud on Saturday, and was removed from office. His excuse was "I was in love." Here in Wisconsin, the repubs tell us that all of the fraud is committed by Democrats...at least all of the conservative posters on this site tell us that. This one Republican was convicted of more counts of voter fraud than all the Democrats here in Wisconsin combined. Maybe the Wisconsin Republicans need to worry more about the lying by their party.

"Scandal allegations scramble 2 Milwaukee races
The charges stunned local political leaders. The chairman of the Milwaukee County Democratic Party was Thomas' campaign manager in the nonpartisan race, and the freshman supervisor had landed the endorsement of dozens of elected officials, including Mayor Tom Barrett, County Executive Chris Abele and U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Wis.).

Also last week, a former aide to state Sen. Spencer Coggs (D-Milwaukee) went public with allegations that other aides had spent taxpayers' time on Coggs' unsuccessful 2010 campaign for lieutenant governor. Coggs, who has denied the claims, is now one of two leading candidates in the four-way treasurer's race." »Read Full Article

Shouldn't we all make a sincere effort to be better informed voters? Shouldn't we all rely on several news sources and not just one newspaper or shopper? Is it clear yet that change is necessary in order to affect better government in OUR state?

"Should the sins of political aides be visited upon their bosses?

Gov. Scott Walker used to think so - when he was a candidate running for the office he now holds.

In a 2006 news release, Walker blasted then-Gov. Jim Doyle when a state employee named Georgia Thompson was indicted on federal corruption charges.

"Unfortunately, we have a Governor and administration that condones unethical and illegal behavior," Walker said in a statement on Jan. 24, 2006. "The people of Wisconsin deserve better."
