Wisconsin background checks for gun purchases increase

MILWAUKEE—If background checks are any indication, Wisconsin’s gun sales seem to be up.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (http://bit.ly/WVMJt7) total sales figures for firearms don’t exist. But a good yardstick is the number of background checks when a gun is purchased.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s background check hotline for handgun purchases has handled 60 percent more calls year to date as of Dec. 23 than it did for the same period last year. And the total number of calls this year has far surpassed all of 2011.
There also appeared to be a spike after the Connecticut shooting Dec. 14.

State figures show for the week of Dec. 9 to 15, the hotline handled more than 3,700 calls. That number jumped to nearly 6,000 the week after.

there should be a survival class taught in schools. All these anti-gun people are so domesticated they would probably keel over dead if we ever had a power outage for more than 48 hours or if their espresso machine didnt work. A gun is an important tool and its likely a large percentage of all of us wouldnt even be here today and have the amenities that we do without them. I know its hard to grasp how a gun led someone to sip on a latte with some honeysuckle syrup while watching whatever channel on TV you want.. but yea.. you wouldnt have any of this if we didnt have the right to arm ourselves. Your life would suck.

What Mouse and MooShoo dont get is that the Freedom of speech their using is No Less or More Important here in America as the Right to Bear Arms !

It would be like ok Right to free speech just dont talk about politics or religion other than that go ahead . Tell me who wouldnt raise a fuss about that . No ones taking those rights away . Hmmmm I wonder why .

The Constitution of America is The Law of The Land .

Mouse - Are you for real? You ask him why he needs it? Answer is simple... because he can. Same reason you can select what church you want to go to, or where you want to eat, what city or state you want to live in, what career/job you want, what clothing you can wear, ...etc... because you can.

wasp2491 - How is that the silliest thing ever? Have you been to my house? No. Do you know me? No. I have collected firearms for over 20 years and there is a loaded one within 5 seconds no matter where you are in my house. My personal safety is my right as well as being accountable for myself. Just like do you have a spare tire in your car? Are you prepared if you wipe out and go in a ditch in a blizzard? Having been alive long enough to know that nothing in life is a constant, always changing, im prepared for whatever life throws at me whether it be a job loss, vehicle breaks down, weather damage to my house, or if an armed mad man decides to attempt to break in and do me harm. Within reason I have all bases covered. The other things which I speak of....car wreck, home damage, job loss.... if you are prepared to handle them.... why would you not be prepared to defend your own life? That is just common sense.

I guess people who have never been around fire arms will never be able to grasp the wording "automatics" and "semi-automatic" and it's these people who who have some of the strongest anti gun driven mind sets . I guess i shouldnt pay too much attention to the ones who dont know what their talking about . Its kinda like little kids who first see another child of a different race or birth defect and they dont want to get involved because their scared of what they dont know , after they interact a short time its no big deal . The only difference is kids get over it and adults dont . Too bad more people werent brought up around firearms and taught safety & responsibility . We wouldn't have all the fears we do . that and Main Stream Media Just Blastin Bad News at Every Chance they Get .

"LIGHTNING STRIKING" YIKES....
I totally agree with Sigma on this post:
And to deny that the odds are not "IN YOUR FAVOR" having a gun available for your survival is just plain ridiculous.
This make total sense to me.

janesvillean - The criminal element will remain the same if guns are banned or not. If everyone surrendered all their guns, how would you be safe at all? Look at Chicago's crime rate. Explain that. When is the last time someone went in and tried to shoot up a gun show, an NRA event, a police station? ...anywhere that people KNOW that good people may be armed they dont shoot up.
-\
Mouse - ?? No im not afraid of guns. I own or have owned pretty much every type and kind of gun that you can legally own. And back to janesvillians question... My house for example...If someone broke in and tried to harm me or anyone...if they made it past the dogs I can defend myself with a legally purchased and 100% legal firearm. The odds of me surviving over them are beyond astronomical. Now say they broke in your house and you have no firearms. Whether they have bats, guns, or silly string to over power you... what do you do? Call the police? Can you have a call registered, cop in route and have them take down the bad guys before they get to you or your family? Of course it can never happen to you... or anyone. Everyone always thinks that.... until it happens, and it can. do you think the 26 people gunned down thought that it could ever happen to them?
-
You buy insurance? Life? home? auto? All the money you spend on that does any of it stop someone from killing you? no.
-

People need to realize that all this media, all the attention, all the political bs going on.... if there are any changes in gun laws they will be minor and not affect anyone, it will be just a piece of mind for the paranoid ones. Unquote....

sigma - That was about this silliest among a lot of silly things you have posted. I will give the nod to the dogs. But the very idea that some one that comes into your home armed and ready and you are going to get them first is ridiculous. Maybe in the dream world of some of the gun folks, but not rational people. They have the advantage hands down. I say that as a gun owner myself.

I wonder if they will arrest and prosecute to the full extent of the law any felon that fails the background check for violating the law by trying to buy a gun. Shucks, there I am dreaming again. Why do we keep passing feel good laws and not enforcing them? Goes back several Presidential administrations. How can a President tell the Justice Department not to enforce laws on the books be it gun laws, immigration laws, defense of marriage laws, etc??? I am not allowed to pick and choose which laws I follow without expecting some consequences. Guess I just have to pick the ones that the POTUS has decided not to enforce. Thought it was up to Congress to pass laws and to change laws if they decided they no longer wanted to have them. Thought it was up to the President to either sign the bill or veto it. Thought it was up to the Justice Department to enforce existing laws. Guess I need to go back to school and take a new Civics class.

the most "anti-gun" president in history huh? That's funny stuff, who told you to say that? because if you came up with that all on your own, you're in trouble.
-
There has hardly been a time in our recent history when guns haven't been so readily available and able to be carried almost anywhere, than under this president. The only gun legislation I can think of so far has been expanding national parks as areas where guns can now be carried.

Why would you want to buy an AR-15 lower when it has to be registered with the government? What you REALLY want to do is print one like this guy:

The files are on the Internet at haveblue.org

I absolutely love the irony - the most anti-gun president in generations is directly responible for the historic amount of arms being acquired by US citizens. Brings a smile to my face and warms my heart :)

Also the AR15 is a component gun wich meansyou can buy the lower that contains the action trigger and it runs around 120 to 300 depending on parts you want . this is the part you need to get from a FFL dealer the rest of the parts no FFL dealer is required so if you cant afford the entire gun buy the lower and build as you go . being that all AR's are selling out this is the next way to get the gun and also requires a background check .

Sigma40, it's pretty silly of me to expect you to be able to support your constant irrational statements, but could you explain how a well-armed community is a safe community, when the US has the highest rate of gun ownership in the world (higher than many war zones), and ALSO has the highest rate of murder and in particular gun murder in the world? Please show your math, or at least your ability to use basic logic.

The laws that would change also include handguns with magazines larger then 10 round , This also adds into the mix of more sales , every ones focused on AR 15's and AK's but many different laws would change ! This is why the raise also in hand guns . Any one who was even thinking about buying a new gun is out getting one now .

Could this just be the result of law-abiding citizens exercising their legal right to bear arms?
Background checks are required for ALL types of firearms, so this is not necessarily for so called "assault rifles".
It would be interesting to know the number of female applicants, as sales to women are reported to be greatly increasing.

Paranoia.
Definition:
Paranoia is an unfounded or exaggerated distrust of others, sometimes reaching delusional proportions. Paranoid individuals constantly suspect the motives of those around them, and believe that certain individuals, or people in general, are "out to get them."
