Walker says he wouldn’t end same-day voter registration
PEWAUKEE—Gov. Scott Walker says he no longer favors ending same-day voter registration in Wisconsin, citing a report that says doing away with it would cost at least $5.2 million.
A Milwaukee Journal Sentinel report says Walker told reporters in Pewaukee on Wednesday “there is no way” he’d sign such a costly bill.
The report came from the state Government Accountability Board. It said if the state eliminated same-day registration it would have to make other changes to comply with federal laws.
Walker had previously said he would sign such a bill, although it wasn’t a priority for him and he wouldn’t push the issue in the Legislature.
He says in light of the new report he doesn’t think lawmakers would even try to approve such a bill.

"Modern technology provides ways to address many of the problems that impede the efficient administration of elections,"
“It is important for national leaders, academic experts, and members of the public to engage in a frank, thorough, and inclusive discussion about how our election systems can be made stronger and more accessible,”
“We should rethink this whole notion that voting only occurs on Tuesday, which is an agricultural notion from way back,”
“Why not have voting on weekends?”
All suggestions made by AG Eric Holder. I know because its a Democrat republicans will hate these quotes out of habit but when reading further:
In a speech at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston, Holder criticized the country’s “antiquated registration system,” calling it the “single largest barrier” to American voters. He proposed that modern technology could help alleviate many problems, suggesting an updated voter registration system, coordinated between states, could rely on government databases and be portable, allowing voters to remain registered to vote even when they move.
Technology is available to have integrity and easy registartion is there and fairly simple and secure to manage. Anyone with a clue of database and security technology knows this. Why not move in this direction? Shouldn't it be our goal as a democratic nation to get 100% of the people to vote?

if they are convicted because of the money they raised it is seized just like it is with anyone else. If the conviction is not related to the campaign money they get to keep it just like someone who runs and loses but does not spend all their money, they can only spend it on campaign related expenses or transfer to the state/national party, another political or super pac,or donate to charity. They can not spend it on lawyers or keep it as income though.

I will say however it does make me happ to see this article. I think that the money argument is BS though. If it were about moneyy they would have dropped the voter ID push because that would cost more. I think its more because he doesnt want another piece of legislation shot down by the courts. Looks really bad if ou want a chance to get re-elected in less than 2 years.

""I swear if walker came out and said the sky is blue you guys would scream that it isn't. Grow up!""
This is as true of the same group of Conservative clowns doing it to Obama for the last four ears, what goes around.....
Funn how blasting evry single thing put forth by the Obama administration is okay for some but the whine when Walker changes his mind? I still dont believe a word that comes out of his mouth. This will be on his desk and he still will sign it. 5 million is NOTHING compared to disenfranchising a huge voting block that will certainl vote against you. I think the Governor has that much in his legal defense fund, no?

Just today that windbag Glen Grothman stated that even though he could provide absolutely no evidence of registration fraud that was linked to same day registration, he still felt the multi million dollar cost would be justified. Walker has definitely made the right decision. Will he stand by his decision? Only the Koch Bros know for sure.

Walker accompanied his son when his son took advantage of same day registration. Maybe Walker has caught on that all the shoddy laws that he and his Republican lemmings have ram rodded through the system end up getting overturned in court. The legal fees to defend all the Republican shenanigans are getting very expensive for the tax payers.

I guess I still don't get it! There are many on here that didn't approve the law and he changed his mind based on more infomration and the cost implications to the state and he still gets attacked! At some point take the losses and victories for what they are. When leading anything, you will never make everyone happy. It's just not possible!

but eagle if there is such a problem with voter fraud why does the attorney general or one of the 72 district attorneys ever prosecute someone? it is easy to do a lot of things against the law that does not mean that we need endless laws and regulations in place.

I kind of agree with Macdaddy! I guess I don't see an issue with a politician or governor who changes their mind. I know I've had certain opinions on what I thought was right and later after recieving more information decide it wasn't such a great idea after all. Folks, whether you like the man or not, that is rational thinking! You don't have to agree with everything he does but if he's willing to change is mind, then there is somewhat of an open mind there. Its a lot more than we can say for our Washington politicians!

andrew if you are not going to ID people then don't have same day, I have illustrated a few times how easy it is to vote multiple times with the current setup, using forged utility bills is not hard to do, trust me.

If you're going to disable comments on the Planned Parenthood article, you might as well be consistent and disable comments here, too. That is, consistently inconsistent.

And the Governor of Michigan has been saying for two years that he wouldn't sign legislation to make Michigan a Right To Work state. He signed yesterday. The new game is to deny then, overnight, slip in a bill to be voted on. I don't trust his words.
