Walker to add 25 nurses at King veterans home
MADISON—Gov. Scott Walker says he will provide money in his budget to hire 25 new full-time registered nurses at the King veterans home.
Unions representing workers at King have complained about staffing shortages and being overworked. Union leaders have warned about the potential for overworked employees to make tragic errors affecting the veterans.
Walker said Thursday that the additional positions will ensure there is a registered nurse on the unit at all times and improve the ratio of patients to nursing staff.
In addition to 25 new nurses, Walker says he will also include funding for 58 certified nurse assistant positions.
Walker says the additional staff was requested by the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs in its agency budget request for the next two years.

Lar80 - Can you read or can you just not comprehend? From the above article; "Unions representing workers at King have complained about staffing shortages and being overworked. Union leaders have warned about the potential for overworked employees to make tragic errors affecting the veterans". I know that some of you folks have a childlike love for this great white father but at least be somewhat honest.

Scotty's brown-nosers are pretty active today, I see. Does no one remember that the DVA was so paranoid about staffing problems at King that they DISCIPLINED A STAFFER for bringing the issues to the media? It was definitely the unions bringing these concerns forward, and even the hand-picked right-wing head of the DVA -- the one whose mismanagement had him forced out by the board, who subsequently lost their oversight authority in an end-run move, bringing the incompetent guy back -- protested in a letter to the Governor that the staffing was adequate. NOW they suddenly increase staffing and everyone's all happy happy joy joy because the "right thing happened"? Boy, you are one gullible crowd. And you're letting this corrupt, incompetent crew run homes for our veterans, thus pretty much proving once again your own contempt for veterans. You know, the people whose widows and orphans fund was TWICE RAIDED for personal and campaign use by TWO underlings of Walker.

Hey, guess what? If you're in a poker game and you can't figure out who the mark is ... you're the mark.

The jazette is just picking up another of Scotty's self-congratulatory press releases.
Maybe you guys should read/watch this to get more of the story.

The quote from the admin person at the WI VA runs counter to all of Lars' nonsense below.
And, frankly, these nursing and CNA positions at the vet home can be difficult to fill. It may take additional financial incentive to get this facility up to proper staffing level. This will take some follow-thru.

It is disheartening to see your oversized amygdalas won't allow you to read what I wrote, without going into knee-jerk partisan reaction mode.
It was a simple thanks to the vets AND the workers that take care of them in the home. They happen to be union, which is probably a good thing, since they have a collective voice that was heard.
I had a relative in a vets home. A nursing home is not easy work by any means.
Not one criticism of your idol, Walker. He is doing the right thing here with our tax dollars. If this story plays into your Scott Walker idol-worship, then sobeit.

Why can't this just be a job well done for everyone. Put the negativity away and look at the story for what it was. The request was put in for the additional positions and it was granted to better care for our vetrans. Simple as That!

I read the words of a bitter little person.
.
It was never a situation of "neglect"; those are your inflammatory words..
.
Staff increases and support were required and Administration at King, and the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, *NOT UNIONS* requested additional people, and the process worked.
.
It's so dishartening when the system actually works from time to time, and still, some folks cannot control their compulsion to snivel
