Business group makes huge ad buy in recalls
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin's leading business lobbying group says it has purchased $2 million worth of television air time to run a spot in support of Republican Gov. Scott Walker starting Monday.
Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce vice president James Buchen says the spot running statewide does not mention any of the Democrats seeking to take on Walker. Instead, Buchen says the spot is designed to make the case that Walker's policies are improving the state.
The massive ad buy comes a little over a week before the May 8 primary. Four Democrats are seeking to take on Walker. They are Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, Secretary of State Doug La Follette and state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout.
A pro-Falk group announced a $1 million ad buy for her Thursday.

The world trade organization and the global economy has made it difficult for the american dream to continue for many americans. The high paying manufacturing jobs that kept the middle class working are going to the low labor countries of the world. The big box/Walmart buy cheap mentality americans love is the driving force and until congress grows a pair and drafts laws that requires corporations to manufacture in the lower 48 the trend will continue. Walker is a puppet and anyone that replaces him will be the same.

Coporate control of government, Democrat or Republican, is very, very bad. Corporations represent few shareholders, and in the case of a privately held company like Koch Industries, even fewer.

Now that someone has brought in the Catholic Church and their censure of Ryan, I have a simple question. Is this the same Catholic Church that allowed one of it's Indiana Bishops to uphold the firing of a teacher because she wanted to undergo in-vitro-vertalization to have a child after extensive infertalization treatment. That doesn't sound too "humane" to me. Religion should play no part in politics for either party. I believed at the time they stuck their noses into the contraception debate, they should have kept out of it and they should now.
And... I am Catholic and don't like much of the Ryan proposal.

"I can tell you I would rather support corporations who bring jobs that Unions who suppress job creation."
.
What about corporations that take your jobs to Mexico and China so they can pay 1/100th the wage and no benefits leaving Americans unemployed?
.
What about corporations that set up an office offshore so they can say they're not American companies and escape paying income and corporate taxes, leaving middle class Americans to pick up the slack for the tax burden?
.
How about corporations like Harley Davison and Mercury Marine that break their unions for no other reason than they can; so they can increase profits by reducing wages and benefits and leaving hard working Americans with less purchasing power and no pensions?
.
Now I'm all for companies that bring jobs, but how are you going to tell the difference between one and the other? Not very patriotic.

The problem with the Union vs the Coporation argument is that the executives of these corporations are making MILLIONS of dollars. The people the Republicans claim are greedy and costing job growth to be "stiffled" are asking for middle-class wages & benefits.

The wage gap between men and women in the United States is 32 percent. it is only 5 percent between union men and women
•
Right-to-work laws disproportionately harm people of color. Hispanic and Latino union members earn 45 percent more and African-Americans who are in unions see salaries 30 percent higher than African-Americans that are not in unions
•
The more workers that are unionized, the higher the wages that employers will offer, even to non-union workers, since workers are less willing to accept substandard wages
•
Higher wages mean more money is spent by working families, boosting the economy and leading to lower unemployment numbers
•
Higher rates of unionism lead to increases in productivity in both union jobs and non-union jobs, as employers must bring in new technology, new techniques and better training in order to attract better workers
•
Employers frequently offer higher wages to workers in order to prevent them from organizing a union, meaning that even the presence of unions and the possibility of their existence in a workplace increases wages
•
Right-to-work laws undercut unionized businesses in the states where they exist because non-union businesses can offer cheaper goods and services by exploiting their workers
•
Right-to-work laws interfere with employer-worker contracts by limiting what the two sides can engage in. These laws don't encourage freedom, they restrain it for all involved, placing the 'wisdom' of conservative politicians over that of both employers and workers

.
•Federal law already prohibits any American from being forced to join a union. Since this is almost the only argument that conservatives put forth in supporting right-to-work laws, and it's 100 percent false, what is the real motivation for these laws?
•
Right-to-work laws don't grant any rights, they simply weaken unions
•
Federal law also prohibits unions from using member or non-member fees from paying for activities that might violate the political or religious beliefs of the worker
•
These laws allow workers who do not pay union dues to obtain the same benefits, including legal representation from unions, as union members without paying for them
•
Workers (union and non-union) in right-to-work states make more than $5,000 a year less, on average, than in other states.
•
States without right-to-work laws have healthier tax bases, which leads to better government programs and educational systems
•
Because unions lead in the fight to ensure safety and health standards for all workers, laws that weaken unions also weaken these standards. The workplace death rate is 51 percent higher in right-to-work states
•
Without strong unions to fight for benefits for workers, right-to-work states have 21 percent more people without health insurance
•
The infant mortality rate in right-to-work states is 16 percent higher
•
Without strong unions to fight for better wages for all workers, the poverty rate in right-to-work states is 2.3 percent higher
•
Right-to-work states offer a maximum weekly worker compensation benefit $30 less than other states
•
Right-to-work laws disproportionately harm women. Union women, on average, earn $149 more per week than non-union women

Based on that statement is there ANYONE who could me MORE misinformed? Unions were created to represent worker interests. The MORE jobs that are created the more workers they represent. The MORE workers they represent the more successful the union. Its ludicrous to suggest unions do anything that would suppress job creation.

What I find laughable is the lack of reasoning applied that views one large special interest group, focused primarily on advancing the agenda in support of who they represent at the expense of WI taxpayers, as evil and the other as good when in fact, they both carry too much influence with our elected officials.
