Gov. Walker announces cuts

By ASSOCIATED PRESS   Friday, December 23, 2011 - 2:09 p.m.

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker’s administration has released its plan for cutting $123 million across state government by July as called for under the budget passed earlier this year.

The University of Wisconsin System would see the largest cut at $46.1 million, followed by the Department of Health Services at $18.5 million and the Department of Corrections at $9.4 million.

All of the cuts will automatically go into effect unless someone on the Legislature’s budget committee objects. Democrats are expected to do that, which will then mean the committee must meet to vote on the plan.

Walker exempted numerous agencies and programs from additional cuts, including schools aid, higher educational financial aid, technical college aid and other around-the-clock state operations.
Agencies were directed to make the cuts without layoffs, if possible.

The 400 wealthiest Americans own more wealth than 160 million Americans. Don't be misled or detoured by the parrots who accuse you of being jealous of those with more wealth or income than you, for the truth is they are afraid of those making just a bit less than they are. They don't want to end up on the bottom of the pile. So they are pleased that money is redistributed from the poor to the wealthy to keep themselves just off the bottom. It's called Last Place Aversion (LPA) and you should check it out. Those who think people trying to correct income and wealth inequality are jealous, in fact, are usually the ones with LPA.

If you expect Republicans, Democrats, Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Boehner, Mitchell, Cantor, Walker or Ryan to enact any legislation to address this issue in a meaningful way, I have one word for you. DON'T!

Nothing will change until we get all private money and political parties out of our electoral process.

When there is a will, there is a way! Hope all is better for you in 2012 and you land back on your feet (no pun intended) so your government assistance doesn't become a lifestyle for you, but rather what it was intended for!

The UW system will just jack up the tuition costs to go to school there to make up these costs! But hey, as long as UW Chancelor David Ward makes his $600,000 plus a year salary, who cares right? Typical, the way our system works in this country! Banks fail, we bail them out, and they use the bail out money to pay out million dollar bonuses to their CEO's. Colleges raise their costs for students, but pay their presidents millions of dollars! Sickens me! http://finance.yahoo.com/news/colleges-p...

wislady, could those layoffs in the entertainment and resort business be somehow related to the cuts in paychecks taken by middle class employees. No, of course, they are because the "rich" don't want to go to Hawaii anymore, they can afford to go to the Rivera now.

We could have had you're Gov. and be talking about the overruns in the high speed rail project. The overpriced fares for the high speed rail project and the $100+ per taxpayer that we would have been paying to subsidize again the high speed rail project because nobody wants to spend that much to ride a train.

Have fun wasting your time verifying the signatures, the dems are doing it before they turn them in. But why trust a group of people that is for the most part (Because some are dishonest) trying to make this happen legitimately to excersise their rights? Just ridicule and name call, spit on petition volunteers, threaten them, do whatever you can to be bullies. Whatever keeps YOUR political, ideological agenda going. Sad state of being these people have put us into, very sad. We are so divided , people are fighting physically. People stopping and threatening old men with violence? Is this democracy in action?

Hopefully he and several of his puppets are out of office by then. Cutting education is a huge diservice to students. Of course since he isn't a college graduate he wouldn't know. Cutting Department of Corrections will put employees at greater risk and their lives in more danger. Department of Health Services will hurt the poor, elderly, and children. Why didn't he cut the salary of the governor?

Stonking: Not sure what your comment means, but newspaper headlines (besides being factual, an attention grabber, different point sizes, etc.) have to fit the space. That is more than likely why the "Gov." was added to this hedline (the real way to spell the word). Reality sounds a lot more innocent than whatever you're thinking. Anyways, people are so busy in the next couple of days that they most likely won't even hear about this news.

I have no problem with UW-Madison getting cuts. Being the second largest employer in the state IMO they are eligible for some cuts, especially with increases in tuition they have imposed, especially hard on the middle class. You know there is fat in their budget.
