Walker reverses position on illegal immigration
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican candidate for governor Scott Walker reversed himself on Arizona's controversial immigration law over the weekend, first condemning it then saying he would be comfortable signing it into law.
The flip came after Walker was barraged with negative comments on his Facebook page following an Associated Press story reporting on his concerns about the law that critics say could lead to racial profiling.
Walker issued a statement Saturday afternoon saying he spoke with the state senator who introduced the Arizona law and he was now comfortable that the rights of citizens would be protected.
Walker's comments on immigration drew hundreds of Facebook comments, with several people saying they were disappointed and no longer supported him.

Scott Walker is the only candidate who truly has the majority of tax paying residents in mind. He is an honest person and has stood behind everything that he brings forth. His position on the AZ issue was presented properly, how the AP slanted the statements is a different story.

How about Hannity and his "she threw the military off Havard's campus"?

Do you know military recruiting never, EVER stopped at Harvard? Did Fox tell you that Havard enlistments stayed the same or increase each year while she was Dean of the Law School?

Last time. This guy didn't knee jerk. The original law was a bad law. Most honest people agree to that.
.
The law, with the amendments, is much better. not perfect, but better.
.
Walker was right with his initial reaction and fine with his position on the amended law.
.
Those who blindly supported the original law are the ones who "knee jerked" their reaction.

Walker should have just taken a deep breath, read the law and come out in support of it when asked instead of kneejerkingly opposing it. I'll guess that by now that he's actually read the 10 page law, which is more than can be said for our Attorney General who has already publicly condemned the law, yet admitted in front of Congress that he hasn't read or been briefed on the whole 10 pages yet.
Funny though, I don't seem to see too many AP stories on the plethora of Tom Barrett flip flops or non actions posted on the Gazette. I'm sure that's just a coincidence though....

IMO there is alot of racism in here. Yes there needs to be a stop to illegal immigrants, but if so make it for all not just one group. To target a specific race or group of individuals is profiling no matter how you look at it and to try and justify it is pure ignorance IMO.....I guess until you see or feel ir first hand you will never know how frustating it is, And i have seen it as to the bi-racial children in my family and this community. The more I see how our government works and trys to dictate the very ones that elected them The more ANTI Government I am beginning to be. Sometimes i wish some of the posters in here would have to experience this type of harassment and humiliation. As how many legal ones will be subject to the law until they give proof which would be after the fact of humiliation and arrest. How many of the posters in here carry proof they are legal USA citizens? Like birth certificates, citizenship papers and or proof of entry into this country. Anyone can get a birth certificate to say they were born here.. Just a pondering thought. Were your original ancesters legal??????

Profiling? Drive to Mexico. You MUST purchase auto insurance from the government (thru Sanborns), go through Military check points every 150 miles or so (machine guns pointed at you from sand bag bunkers) and show your passport, proof of insurance then, with out of country plates you are pulled over and given random tickets BUT, if you give them $50 US Dollars you are let go without a ticket. Sounds like some cops in AZ don't like this law. From the AP:
Several Arizona police chiefs and sheriffs say, as hard as officers try not to profile, enforcing the law will inevitably lead to it. They say it will end up taking time away from solving crimes in their cities and towns.
"When you get a law that leads a state down this path, where the enforcement is targeted to a particular segment of the population, it's very difficult not to profile," said Phoenix Police Chief Jack Harris.
On Monday, police bosses from Maryland and Nevada condemned the law, saying that it could suck up vital resources and destroy delicate relationships with immigrant communities if implemented in their own states. There are at least nine other states considering similar legislation.
Police Chief Thomas Manger of Montgomery County, Md., in suburban Washington said he doesn't have the resources or the desire to enforce federal immigration violations by people who aren't disrupting the community.
"If they're not committing a crime here, frankly, I'm not sure how it enhances public safety to target those people for removal," he said.

This bill is no different than the federal bill that is already law. The only difference is that Arizona is willing to enforce it.
Between drug wars that are spilling over and the illegals taking over, Arizona is not a safe place to visit let alone a place to live. Are the citizens supposed to sit idly by and do nothing and continue to lose their state, property, and lives? Should legal citizens keep running to other states because they are losing theirs to illegal aliens and drug runners? Guess what??? When they have completely saturated AZ, they will push out to the next state.
The midwest is a hotbed of illegal aliens. It's not going to get any better because everyone decides that racial profiling may take place. Of course it will. Here's the truth...We are bombarded with illegal aliens from Mexico (mostly). Being from Mexico makes you hispanic. Hispanics have a certain look (as does every ethnicity). Therefore, if a cop pulls you over for a crime, sees your hispanic, he's going to question your legal status in this country. If you have your documents available, you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Get your ticket and be on your way. If you don't, be prepared to sit in a holding cell until INS can determine your status. It's not a perfect system but it beats the heck out of doing nothing until the problems too big to deal with. It's a hard truth to hear but there is absolutely no way to solve the problem without racial profiling. Like all politics, put a different more pc word on it and it'll be all good and you can sleep at night.
For the record, there is an official language in the US (although unwritten). It's english. All of our ancestors who migrated here legally agreed upon it. It was a thing of honor to learn the language. A language represents a culture. America and all her glory is a culture. So, if you want to be an American, step one is speaking the language.

Very interesting....
Attorney General Eric Holder on NBC Meet the press "...the concern I have about the law that they have passed is that I think it has the possibility of leading to racial profiling and putting a wedge between law enforcement and a community that would, in fact, be profiled"
Today (May 13th) in front of the Department of Justice oversight hearing of the House Judiciary Committee Holder said something that IS ALARMING. When asked if he read the Az bill he said "I have not really". When further asked of his concerns on the bill and making judgments about it he stated "I've only made, made the comments that I've made on the basis of things that I've been able to glean by reading newspaper accounts, obviously, looking at television, talking to people who are on the review panel, on the review team that are looking at the law. But I've not reached any conclusions as yet with regard to. I've just expressed concerns on the basis of what I've heard about the law."

If you're refering to tax money, then it's the government who is taking your hard earned $$, you just don't like how it's being distributed by our politicians. As for not paying taxes, they probably pay more than the rest of us as $$ is withheld for social security, state and federal taxes but I'm willing to bet that an illegal immigrant isn't going to file a tax return to get a refund. FOR THOSE WHO COME HERE, JUST AS OUR ANCESTORS DID, YOU SPEAK AMERICAN, PAY YOUR TAXES, TAKE AN OATH. FOR THE LEGAL IMMIGRANTS, I HAVE NO PROBLEM. IT IS ALL THE ILLEGALS (ALL THEM COUSIN JUANS GET OVER HERE, AND WHO GET JOBS FROM EMPLOYERS, WHO BY THE WAY NEED TO COME UP WITH SOME SORT OF TATIC TO FIND OUT IF THEM "I.D" CARDS THEY HAVE ARE VALID), IT IS THE ILLEGALS WHO NEED TO GO BACK. Won't all the politicians eventually come around for fear of not getting American votes at election time?
Regarding that statement from the campaign: Sounds like the man believes if they can't get health care/vaccine their children and can't obtain a driver's license, that we'll be protected? That is one heck of a plan to give jobs back to Americans who will then turn around and spend money in America.
Besides, nothing will change for them much in AZ, look at how often cops turn a blind eye as it is while still having the law on their side. It's too political and they all have personal opinions and reputations to protect. It's not like they are even going to be sending a person back a day. You can literally use any excuse to racially profile, add this to the list of reasons why we still can't protect the people of our country.

I am with you now on this one Walker.....it is time that we DEPORT ILLEGALS, and those that are legal, may stay. However, start using OUR language....its rude at the workplace to speak in foreign words....after all, if you did not understand what we were saying you would be the first ones to scream some sort of discrimination. If we remove the illegals that are working in our area, jobs would open up by the hundreds allowing our men and women of the community to get jobs......thus cutting back on the amount of people on unemployment.....its a win win situation here with this bill.

Below please find a statement by Scott Walker provided by the campaign:
“I sympathize with the people of Arizona who are victimized by violence, crime and property damage as a result of illegal immigration. After discussing with several state legislators who both authored and sponsored the new law in Arizona, I’m satisfied that the amended bill provides adequate protections against racial profiling and discrimination. A police officer may only inquire about the immigration status of persons they have stopped, detained, or arrested for other reasons.
In addition, earlier decisions by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals satisfy my concern about any conflicts with the 10th Amendment. If I were Governor of Arizona, I too would sign the Arizona immigration bill.
As Governor of Wisconsin, I will sign legislation that strengthens our protection against illegal immigration and ensures that taxpayer funded benefits like Badger Care and drivers licenses are not available to those who are here illegally.”

Moreover, we now know that the southern border is where illegal Middle Easterners often cross - they learn Spanish and blend in with Latin American illegals crossing into the US.
