Local state governments discussing consolidation
MADISON–-A coalition of groups representing local governments in Wisconsin plans on releasing a report that calls for greater consolidation and more efficiency.
The group calling itself the Local Government Institute of Wisconsin plans to release its plan today at a news conference.
Members of the group include the League of Wisconsin Municipalities, the Wisconsin Counties Association, the Wisconsin Towns Association and the Alliance of Cities.
The group says the report will outline ways to consolidate services in order to save taxpayer dollars.
The report is an evaluation of how local governments in the state are structured and whether there could be more cooperation within a region.

The simplest change would be to eliminate township government. No other state has such a significant layer of government at that level.
